Friend of mine has a BB, and he has an instant messaging pin. Is there an app I can get which will allow me to IM his Blackberry?

As long as he's on one of the major IMs - gmail chat, msn etc - you should be able to IM. In fact, any IM program should work since they run over the Internet and are device independant.

    Is that any help?

Thanks, but I'm specifically looking to IM him as a Blackberry user would IM another user using their Blackberry Pin.

Don't think you can, as far as I know the Blackberry IM is all ties into RIM's servers! Best bet is get him to get an IM app for his Blackberry.

I'm using IM+, I quite like it. There's no background app for IM (not for non-jailbroken phones anyway).

I got IM+ the other day: love it. Don't know how i managed without it before!

I'm a GTalk user too, and IM+ keeps you online when you're in other apps/in sleep mode, etc. It also pushes new messages to the screen (whatever other app you're in) when you get one. It's the bee's knees.

I had a similar problem when I moved from Blackberry to iPhone. Such a pain.

I found most of the free IM apps only had 30 minutes of PUSH when you closed the App, which was a serious pain, and almost rendered the app pointless.
The Yahoo App offers 1 week of PUSH, I never tried this though.

Currently I use eBuddy Pro. It was $2.99 I think but offers 3 days of PUSH which is signifcantly better than the free version. I found it worth the few quid purely for that; my mate uses the Blackberry equivalent; happy days.
