start- search (run on xp)msconfig-(enter key xp)-start up-disable the offending item,be very careful what you disable

i did that already, and uninstalled hp quickplay ,it makes no diofference.
ON cnet it says delete hp hidden partition to stop it loading, get rid of it completely using diskpart ,fdisk or similar program to unhide the partition on the hardrive.

If you delete the hidden partition you will lose the back up for your operating system,if memory serves me spybot has a tool that shows what items are being loaded on startup,it might be able to disable the hp thing.
    just found this on howtogeek.com

The Quickplay Program is eh... odd.

The annoying part of QP is as a Media Player: Delete that.

The QP Buttons program controls the buttons on the top of the laptop: Keep this.
