I'm not looking for medical advice but I was wondering:

I had a brazilian wax for the first time about a week ago. Hadn't really looked at it too closely but this morning noticed that I've dark almost bruise-like uneven patches on either side and towards the back.

They're not itchy or sore but are dark and obviously noticeable, I was wondering whether anyone had experienced the same?

Got a bit of a fright when I saw them :(

Hey I've had that happen before, it cleared up in a few days and was grand. its fairly normal, especially if you went to a beautician as opposed to a specialist waxer. I wouldnt worry about it.

Yep, I've been bruised before. Normally the sign of a bad waxer.

    OP here.

On second look they're like dry patches and a bruised colour. As if waxing wasn't bad enough to begin with :P

Thanks for the replies, fingers crossed they disappear soon!

Hope it calms down soon OP, just out of interest did they use strip wax or hot wax? As Larianne said, bruising like that is a sign that you need to find a new waxer. If you're in Dublin, try Waxperts in dun laoghaire, they're brilliant.

    Thanks Toots.

Just talked to my sister there and she was saying she'd the same reaction from the same waxer. So might go elsewhere in a few weeks time!

It was the peel off wax that doesn't need the strips. Found it fantastic apart from the rash, much less painful! *sigh* someday someone will make a fortune from finding a proper solution :P

You were either bruised or a small bit of skin was taken with the wax. It's down to poor technique of the therapist and it's extremely common + nothing to worry about. Put some sudocrem on the area +hopefully it should clean up soon. Next time make sure both u + the therapist stretch the skin well

OP, was it your first time getting waxed?
If so, it might be due to a sudden rush of blood to the surface of the skin that usually occurs during waxing. As the hair is being ripped out of the root, the force can often be enough to rupture blood vessels in the top layer of skin and as a result, they can 'leak' into the epidermis, causing the bruising.

Did you find yourself bleeding where the hair was ripped out? This happened to me the first time I had a bikini wax and although very alarming, it is simply due to the afforementioned "force" and the fact that the area has a very rich blood supply.

I wouldn't worry too much if it's not paining you but I'd advise you to keep an eye on it just to be safe. It could also be a possible allergic reaction to the wax solution used by an inexperienced waxer.
