Advice on laptop screen

    Hi Folks,

Would appreciate advice on an issue I'm having with a HP 6930 Elitebook.

Basically, the screen is so dim as to be barely readable. When I connect it to an external monitor the image is perfect.

But here's the kicker - when I click back to the laptop screen the image is perfect for a second, THEN it snaps back into dimmy oblivion.

    Any advice here?

    Cheers
    Quad

it wouldnt be something as simple as the screen brightness being down? In which case there should be keys fn+brightness up or something like that on the keyboard.

    Hi encryptix,

I thought that but pressing the fn + brightness up/down doesn't change the screen at all.

If teh brightness buttons are doing nothing, then it is probably them, you need to figure out how to get them working. Do teh other fn buttons work?

    Have you checked power settings?

start > control panel > power options and on the left-hand panel select adjust the brightness display...

How dim is dim? Is the screen essentially black with only a vague image. If so it is either a problem with the inverter or the LCD itself. Only real way of knowing is with swoptronics.

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for the all advice.

I messed around with it and it appears the backlight is bust. It's a friends laptop and now I think she fears the wrath of work!
    :)

I think they can cost up to €150 to repair, if more than two old I guess it ain't worth it.:(
