So just finished watching it there now, i thought the movie was excellent upto a certain point in the film, then it just seemed to fall apart. Everything upto the point where Michael played his first game for school was excellent, the script and acting was excellent...Jim McGraw i thought played Michael very well.

Bullock, i'm not convinced this is Emmy or Oscar winning stuff, did she put in a good performance compared to her past films?....sure, but her past movies are woeful.

So maybe people thought, wow....she great, but Oscar winning?
She played the mom really well, the nuturing and caring mom....al very well, but sorry i don't see a massive jump in her acting skillz to warrant the awards.

Again, my issue was once it got to a certain point in the film it fell apart, silly comic touches, acting degraded as did the directing, it's like someone took over the movie halfway through to make it more "sellable" or upbeat or movie-goer friendly.

It's got a high IMDB rating + RT, raked in ton of cash....it's a rather uplifting movie, Jim mcgraw conveyed the harsh life of this character very well, understated and withdrawn performance, a damaged child. But in it's i personally don't see award winning stuff.

    What's your take?

    Hated it.

Bullock is solid enough, anchors the film as best she can, but it's the blandest, most dull, join the dots movie I've seen in a long time. Everything just happened, with little to no tension, and when there was something to upset Michael's progress, like the cartoon racist in the stands, it's both ridiculous and overcome pretty much instantly. I kept watching in the hope it got remotely exciting, but it never did.

It's a strange one, I don't think there's anything particularly awful to it, it's just the blandest, dullest, most boring and predictable things I've seen in some time.
