i would like to know if any one knows a site that i can search by cited references to papers, so i can find a paper that continues from work i already know about. thanks

Citeseer. Type the name of the paper, then click "citations" next to it to see a list of papers which cite it.

It might also be worth checking out Zotero, it's a Firefox extension that helps you collect, manage, and cite your research sources.

It comes packaged as part of the Firefox Campus Edition, along with FoxyTunes and StumbleUpon.
