High Mileage Heroes

Got a lift from a pal in his old '01 Toledo TDi and realised the thing is clocking onto nearly 250,000 miles. Solid as a rock and was looked after by previous owners.

I've also heard of an '02 Octavia taxi that runs round the clock (literally) by two lads (day/night shifts) with an epic 300,000 on the dash.

Would make you think twice about flogging something that's got some life in it.

Anybody here with a high mileage motor that just keeps on goin' ?

In know of a Mitsubishi FTO MIVEC with over 200,000 miles on it on the original engine and box. still flying.
Not intergalactic mileage I know, but for a 200bhp 2.0 engine that revs over 8000rpm it's impressive.

My 94 Vectra 1.7td has 268K on it but it is nearing honourable retirement, mainly cos the missus won't drive it:rolleyes:, my mechanic says i'll never drive anything as reliable again.

Opel Vectra 2.0 Diesel Direction Injection dont change timing belt ever because its chain, in taxi 340,000 miles gem only thing, fuel pump can be expensive new but Traynors sell second hand ones for £25 and month warranty.

Had 4 of them in family and 9 astras petrol and diesel can't be beat

My old man's 03 petrol Avensis (previously my car) is about to hit the 200k miles mark. Likes to use a bit more oil these days though.

My old Integra had 234,000 kms on the clock when I sold it 3 years ago and according to mywheels it's still on the road. And I reckon there's another 100k kms missing. It too saw 8200 rpm on a daily basis.

I bought a 1992 Merc 250 diesel during the summer for €430, she had about 230 000 miles on it, that's quite fresh for one of them, reckon it will go for ever. I got it through the NCT quite easily, 3 tyres, oil change and a relay for the ABS along with adjusting the handbrake. Sold it after 3 or 4 months, she was very slow. Great cars though.

I've got 3 cars that some would call high mileage

    96 Carina 160K miles
    97 Corolla 181K miles
    94 Corona 360K klms

All are still used on a daily basis.

You'd enjoy it more in a more comfortable car.

My old CR-X had 180k miles on the clock it went to the great race-track in the sky...

Not my fault... a non-mentioned member of my family, while I was still trying to concourse it, took it out for a "spin" without any oil in it. Couldn't source a new engine for it before I left England.
