    Hey,

I just got word of a job in an investment bank since finishing college this year.

I was wondering if anyone has any answers or knows where I should look for these:

I will be making around 30k, I do not know if I am likely to ever recieve a bonus also or not.
I would like to know what I could expect to earn in say 5 years time and also maybe 10

will it stay roughly around 30-40ish?

also how possible is it to find jobs in other countries for this type of work?

would be interested in hearing any experiences.

30k as a graduate? Grab with both arms!

As for bonus? Realize OP that your job in IT is steady and constant, you are always needed. Where as the staff in front, middle and back office will be jettisoned during downturns but may make bonuses when times are good and the company is making serious money.

Having said all that, I know the sector but don't know a whole lot about technology departments. Is that even IT?

Ah IT, there are many, many IT people on boards who can chip in with good advice and contribute to this forum.
I don't know a whole lot about that area. But I know don't be relying on bonuses. Ireland isn't "the city" but in 2007 you could make over 10% of your salary in bonuses but not last year or this year. Though possibly something next year.

But in our company IT always were in a seperate appraisal system to everyone else. It's certainly not always secure but your job security isn't affected the same way as most other departments in financial services

As for 30k as a starting salary, why are you even posting here, get busy replying to accept :D

€30k for a starting graduate role is very good giving the economy, amount of graduates available and the small amount of graduate roles available (I am assuming this is with an Irish investment bank?).

Generally a business analyst will about €60k with 5-10 years experience. So in 5 years time you will probably be on about 50-55k. To get beyond 60k you will need to become a team lead and you can get up to €70k. Again this is just averages, you should check out other salary surveys to get a better picture.

Not all companies pay bonuses, if they do it will probably be between 0 and 20%. Given the economy there may be no bonuses for a number of years.

    This is London specific.

0 - 3 years typically ranges from 35 - 50 depending on the area and company
    3 - 8 years 60 - 85k depending where you are

After that it really comes down to where you work and what type of job you are doing. Techies are usually limited within the operational front therefore the most they'd really get (Other than CIO) is 120k.

    This does not include bonuses.
