Anyone watching this on RTE1 now? Good show, providing insight into the story behind the film Divine Rapture, and the great and tragic figure that was Marlon Brando. Well done RTE.

Was looking forward to it; good show alright. Some said that it would have made Angeline Ball A-list.

Great to see the rough cuts, too.

Pity 'de filum' was never made.

Well it looks like we'll see a modernized version of it, though I'm not sure does the renaming of it to "Holy Mackerel" bode well!!

Nice touch from Marlon to cut a cheque for the local drug rehabilitation centre. He hadn't gotten paid all that much from his time in Ireland, and his personal finances weren't as healthy as they should have been considering his status. His island getaway in Haiti was haemorrhaging his cash. Not to mention costly defence lawyers for his son.

I was one of the staff working in the Treatment Centre that Brando visited, but on the morning that he came all the boys were missing. We were on our way back for Sherkin Island. I remember the day like it was yesterday. That morning Matt Murphy ( The Birdman of Sherkin) came banging on our door and accussed one of the boys of stealing the keys to all his cars and vans.....needless to say our day started of bad....but got worse. He told us to leave the Island and never come back..In called ahead to let the staff know that we would be there in one hour.....and what did they tell me? Brando had just left.'......

To Reginald DuM -- your post is inaccurate. (1) Mr. Brando was paid handsomely by the production before he arrived in Ireland and (2) He owned an island in Tahiti, not Haiti. Thank you.

i thought it was a very badly made show, which is a very good story, which was a pity. the constant dedelleaye music was brutal and they should have showed more of he 20 minutes movie that was put together. the concept of the movie sounds awful but i have to say the clips i saw of it looked good enough....

No thank you java, Boards is indeed a better place now that we have diligent folk like yourself pa-trolling the threads and signing up to correct slight innaccuracies. On your first point our definitions of being paid handsomely clearly differ. Your second is correct, it was Tahiti not Haiti. My error.

Reginald, one million USD is a handsome payment where I come from.

It was an interesting yarn I thought though a tad superficial. There's an interesting article here from the Daily Telegraph last month. It's a pity they didn't have any comments from Debra Winger on the programme.

I think it's safe to say that the film's folding was no loss to the world of cinema. It definitely had the paddy factor turned up to 11 though it could have been unintentionally hilarious.

Is there anywhere you can watch the movie?

Although romantic misty eyed views may be less frequent had the production been successful, I have to compliment RTE on a rare success of their own. Yes, it was grating at times, but the human aspect of the story was handled very well, as indeed were the frank recollections of many involved. One of RTE's better moments this year.

People just aren't used to watching Documentaries on RTE, one of the areas that they do well. I missed this show but enjoyed their Christmas Night Doc on John Huston in Ireland. His daughters come across very genuine. Angelica Huston in particular seems like a nice person doesn't have a hollywood air about her at all.

Just wanted to thank you for directing us to the very informative article.

I so wanted to see this show but missed it. Can anyone tell me if there is somewhere online I can watch this. I'd be very grateful.

    Cheers

RTE has a "player" that shows recent shows. Perhaps you can find it on their website. Hope you find it and also hope you enjoy it.

Cheers guys I've checked on the RTE player but they don't have it on there. Never mind I'll have to hope they reshow it.

I must be missing something as I can't see it. Was it a special on a programme with a different name?

I'm not getting anything about Ballybrando at all. All I'm getting is a selection of other programmes and a box showing the message I entered earlier.

This is indeed quite curious. I have tried it on multiple computers and it works (Firefox & IE), immediately bringing up the exact page you are after.

Do you work for an international company who's IP address might be set to their home country by any chance?

Funny you should ask as I'm working in London until the end of the month. Didn't think that would matter.

The player now works beyond these shores according to the thread above. Plus if you were getting Behind Closed Doors in London then we are no closer to solving the mystery of the missing Ballybrando piece.
