break the bank and get RVN in from Real on an 18 month deal. A proven player who'll get a goal in very tight games.

    Nicely put.
Now is the time for Mr Levy to show any ambition that he may have. The league may never be as open again for a long time. Now is the time to try grab it with both hands.

    Believe....

sorry to say it ....the league is not wide open......last year was the ideal chance, this year is another opportunity, but then again, the "top4" are not as clinical in recent years.

I'm a liverpool fan (forgive me) ..... and spurs have a real chance of top 2 or 3 ...and could even win the league, Harry is an excellent manager and a great squad, the last couple of weeks hasnt been the best (given previous purple patch wiping other teams out with precision passing etc)

for me spurs have always been a threat but lacked consistancy... and seemed to turn out to be cup specialists....but with Harry....who knows...if not this year.... heres hoping for soon.

afraid .... I've been a liverpool fan for about 25yrs .... I think the age to change teams is in your teens.... will stick with them (even thought they are apalling and have been for a long while now)

and hire a hypnotist to make the players believe in themselves and not have an inferiority complex against teams like Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea etc.

With self belief and true confidence in their own abilities, we really could be a title challenger. Sadly though, I don't feel we have the confidence to go that extra half a yard.

Jesus has everyone been at the brandy!!!

I was saying before the season started that there was no reason why we shouldn't challenge for 4th and that there was hardly any difference, on paper, between the top teams and us - and I got shot down in flames!!

Now some of you previously pessimistic to the core fans are predicting title challenges?!!?

I certainly dont think we can challenge. Top 6 is the target for me, always has been. No harm getting excited mind you :D

For me, this year is the best chance there ever has been for a side outside the top 4 to break it. Villa, City and maybe ourselves all have realistic chances, although if you put a gun to my head, I would say Liverpool will finish in the top 4, providing gerrard and torres are fit.

If we sign 1 or 2, then maybe, but i still think we are short in 1 or 2 areas.

6th is a really pessimistic target (we've not been as low as that all season - how can that be a target!?) - although i sense your trying to manage your own emotions!!

Our own manager is openly stating that Top 4 is the target. We may make it, we may not, but its definitely the aim for this season.

I also agree that none of the top teams (including Man U and Chelsea) are much different to us on paper - its our winning mentality that would be tested (Rich Mc70) - but if we went on a winning run who knows?

Yep, we are only 1 or 2 world class players from being as good as anything in the league. But i've been saying that since the summer. Just wasn't sure what the whole change of mood is all about - but i like it!!

No title prediction from me, RickyV. As I said, our players do not have the self belief and confidence to go that extra half a yard.

Sure we can challenge for the top four however I have a gut feeling that 4th spot will come down to a late fight between City and Pool.

The only difference between us and Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea is:

    1. We lack a winning mentality - a result of years and years of under-achievement

    2. Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea have a Torres, a Rooney and a Drogba, we have a Crouch.

Harry Redknapp is the man responsible for difference 1. I'm not quite sure he's in a kind of Mourinho/Capello mould to really instill belief into us but he's never had the chance at a big club before - here's hoping.

Levy is the man responsible for difference 2. We need to loosen the purse strings or be cleverer in the transfer market and sign a world class superstar striker to partner Defoe. Its not like we haven't got the money, we have virtually a zero net spend over the last 18 months.

I don't know how you can say that the most successful manager we have had for years is also responsible for us not having a winning mentallity

Harry Redknapp is a disgraceful manager and the sooner he gets a few months in jail the better for Spurs. They can actually get a manager with honesty and integrity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

What we need is 70 + points and i'd like to get there sooner rather then later most times the race for 4th has been close 70 is plenty for 4th
That means we are bang on target with our current form but i would like to see us take chelsea and arsenal at home and liverpool is a huge huge match if we win we really are on a good run

like who?Mr "i didn't see it" wenger or Mr "just sign him wether his club wants to sell him or not"ferguson or Mr"jesus i hope gerrard and torres are fit" benitez.not much honesty or integrity there.
redknapp was the right man to get spurs out of the mire they were in last season and he is still the right man to lead us into a european spot beit uefa or cl.not much of an ego, players want to play for him and he makes good signings.he's doing a great job and as for his run ins with the fuzz...i don't care if he molests donkeys in his spare time as long as he gets us into europe

What I meant by a 'winning mentality' is getting up there and finishing amongst the Top 4, competing for and/or winning leagues and cups at home and in Europe. Not merely doing 'reasonably well' in a kind of Portsmouth/West Ham type of way.

Don't get me wrong, Harry has won plenty of games - but nothing has been achieved yet. The test is to see if he can instil into the players the confidence to go that extra step. I really hope he is the man to do this for us.

Just look at the managers that have proved they have that winning mentality. Liverpool have had a team, but for Gerrard & latterly Torres, thats been bordering on ordinary. Yet Benitez has won the Champions League and FA Cup and consistently finished Top 4 and almost won the League last season. Wenger has hardly spent a penny, has a virtual youth team playing with no experience or physical power or balance - yet Arsenal have consistently finished Top 4 and challenged for the CL - aswell as winning numerous leagues and FA Cups. Yet on paper i wouldn't put Arsenal's squad above ours.

The great thing is, Harry has never had the opportunity to manage a club like Spurs before - with the expectations and opportunity that brings. He could be the man - we just don't know yet.

Although in the summer, I felt we weren't that inferior to the Top 4 on paper, I too would probably have taken 6th at the start of the season.

However things have changed - Harry's really got them playing as a team, instilled confidence into players we thought were average and the other top teams seem to have become weaker. We've hardly been out of the Top 4 all season and we look as good as any of the challengers.

If were to finish 6th now it would be a big disappointment to fans, players and the manager.

Also I really feel we may not get another chance for Top 4. By next season I reckon Man City will be challenging for the title, not just Top 4. If we can progress quickly now, we may be able to take Liverpool (going through a crisis on and off the field) & Arsenal (Wengers stubborness on relying on youth may lead to his downfall). Making the 'Big 4' Man U, Chelsea, Man City and Spurs. We can dream!

I agree with you about Rafa and Wenger but as you say yourself Harry has never had the opportunity to manage at a club like ours. In what he has done so far he took a team in the relegation zone and one season later, his first full season here we are in the top 4 at the moment half way through. I just don't get where you can come up with he is responsible for us not being as good as / have the winning mentallity of Chelsea, Man Utd and in particular Liverpool who are currently below us in the table. :)

I'm not saying Harry is God, or as good a manager as Wenger, Mourinho and Co. because their track record speaks for itself but what I am saying is Harrys track record so far has been very good and hopefully will turn out with him joining the ranks of the elite managers of the game.

this window is another big test for Levy, based on past decisions i'm not confident that he'll splash the cash and bring in a top drawer partner for Defoe. this is the most open league in years and everything is up for grabs so here's hoping Levy decides to go for it.
