I have about 6 or 7 apps on my iPhone 3GS and haven't yet downloaded the update to 3.1 or whatever it is.

Just wondering if I go ahead and do so whether my apps will be deleted from the phone?

As yet they're not saved/backed up on iTunes....

You'll need to connect the phone to update it under iTunes. Let it sync. Then the apps will be on your computer as well. Do the upgrade. Sync. You shouldn't lose anything.

you can also manually right click your iphone in itunes and click transfer purchases

If any of the apps are from a jailbroken program like Cydia, Apple will remove them when you update. You can re-jailbreak though and put them back on.
