I'm just watching Chaplin on tv3/3E - whatever it is called - and I have just seen a girl in bed with her nipple showing.

Although a nice surprise I am wondering is this unusual?

also in ghostbusters earlier they had the word sh*t, around 3pm.

    So have they eased up?

This isn't the UK thank God.

Titanic has been shown numerous times in the afternoon, yer womans tits and all. **** isn't even considered a bad word in over censored Britain.

I'm actually recording Day 7 of 24.. it's been running all day on Sky 2, and I missed half of the last season.

It's running until 7am tomorrow morning.. surely the last episode around 6am will be butchered. I know '24' is hardly The Sopranos but at 6am.. surely even a couple of gunshots to the knee, Jack's "sonofabitch" or whatever will be edited out.

According to Ofcom, the watershed on standard television in the UK starts at 9:00 p.m., and finishes at 5:30 a.m. the next morning. Programmes that are 15+ are shown during this period. However, some 12+ shows can be shown before 9:00 p.m., such as The Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle and Doctor Who. On premium film or pay-per-view services requiring a subscription, the watershed starts at 8:00 p.m. However, 12, 15 and 18 rated films can be shown on PIN protected channels (such as Sky Movies) at any time of the day. Viewers are required to enter their PIN to view. There should be a gentle transition to adult material[7], and 18-rated material is not allowed to be shown before 9:00 p.m.

What is the law governing digital channels though?
I ask because it's intensely annoying that around watershed hours, channels such as Comedy Channel & Dave insist on crudely bleeping /blanking out swear words.

TV3 did not censor Paul Gogarty's outburst in the Dáil on the 5.30pm news yet RTÉ did bleep it at 6.00pm.

Has this something to do with TV3 tabloid journalism?

    Those channels have no excuse.

Dave censor out the word "Cock" all the time on Top Gear, it drives me nuts! How is that a curse? The UK seem to be so strict about 'naughty' language or anything remotely sexual...

    Cock is an animal.
    Tit is a bird.
    Dick/Willy/Mickey/Fanny is a name

They are not curse words. They may cause offence but if I decided to call someone a piece of paper would it be bleeped out? I think not!

AFAIK in Britain the watershed for subscription TV (or encrypted as I remember them saying on the disclaimer) is 8pm but before that they can show what they like once it's Pin-protected.

What I should have added is that it seems entirely inconsistent; it happened most recently on Dave last night. I was watching one of their endless parade of QI repeats (love that show) that aired around 9/10pm. They bleeped out what I think was "Boll*cks", but bizarrely kept Stephen fry declaring he was "p1ssed" intact. I don't get it. Fed up of small groups of buzzkills ruining my fun 'cos they're being offended on my behalf.

    Bollocks is the object.
    Pissing is the act.

    9pm to answer the OP.

The BCI (now the BAI) did research and found that Irish people find Violence more objectionable than sex, sex than nudity and nudity more than ****ing cursing.

I hate the way UK channels are going around cenoring programming during the day. If you can't show it at 2pm then don't, show it at 11pm.
