    Hi

I need to find a nice centrally located hotel in Berlin, my budget is around 250-300 euro for 3 nights, I'll be going next month, so hopefully some good hotels will drop their prices.

    any suggestions welcome

    thanks

For that budget you will get an amazing hotel in Berlin, i got about 6/7 times a year for gigs. Usually i book off priceline and can get the Mariott in Mitte for about 30stg a night.
Really nice hotel... If you need any info pm me

I am staying at Hotel Amano (I am in Berlin right now :)). It is very good, modern and nicely designed. I very much recommend it. Location is Hackescher Markt.

I stayed in the raddison when I was there. Lovely hotel. Think it was around 140 per room. Across from tv tower and alexanderplatz. May get it cheaper depending on when you going. The Fish tank inside is amazing. Worth even walking in to see if your not staying there. Folks stayed in Park Inn across from it and said they had no problems. Think thats around 90pr/pn

    Park Inn - 71pn
    Radison - 115pn

Might head back myslef at that price

I like the Park Inn - great views and fantastic location transport-wise.
Their funny bathrooms are a plus.

Just looking at the Park Inn, looks nice for the price!

Id love to stay in the Radisson but is it worth paying an 100e?

I stayed in Park Inn this summer. Great value and super handy for getting everywhere.

The radison is very nice, you could always stay in the Park Inn and go in the radison for a ramble. You can go up through the middle of the fish tank as part of seaworld next door.

I think I'll go with the park Inn, Id love to stay in the radission but is it really worth the extra 120euro, its only a 3 night stay too!

I stayed in the Q! hotel before Christmas with my gf, its in Charlottenburg area, west Berlin. Its not far from the Zoo and the Olympic Stadium too.

    Link:
    http://www.splendia.com/en/hotel/?hotel_id=30760&datestart=28/01/10&dateend=30/01/10&rooms=1

It was about €270 for 3 nights. Funky hotel. Cool bar downstairs which was lively if you want to go there! Book it without breakfast as there are lots of great places around to eat, like Café Wintergarten im Literaturhaus Address: Fasanenstr 23, Charlottenburg, 10719. I can give more recommendations for places to eat if you like.

Its on the Kudam, a really long street, 3 km or so which has lots of shops, and 200 yards to a busy U Bahn station. The S Bahn and U Bahn and trams around Berlin are incredible efficient.

I don't know the other places so won't knock them but this place was very cool!

Why are you going to Berlin? Partying, weekend away? Cool city, something for everyone...

Im going with my gf for a little break away. We've never been to Germany so thought Id start with Berlin! It looks amazing.
Regarding Hotels, Idealy I would of love the Radission but its outta my budget. But thanks for the info, I;ll check out that hotel now!

Despite the wall having come down over 20 years ago, East and West Berlin are still quite different. I would recommend the East over the West anytime. The Park Inn is a great hotel at the heart of East Berlin. If you can afford it, go for that one - you cannot go wrong. It is located at Alexanderplatz, the largest S- and U-Bahn interchange in Berlin. Trains, metros and trams to anywhere in Berlin leave every couple of minutes.

Pretty much same as us so! We went for 3 nights. Its very easy to get around, just make sure you get yourself a good map... I would recommend the Reichstag at night time, it gives a great view of the city and queues are not too bad at that time. The Holocaust Memorial is pretty haunting and the tour is very interesting but the audio tour does take a bit of time, 1.5 hours or so and can be quite draining.

We just did a lot of wandering and really enjoyed it. The area around Rosa Luxumberg Platz has the most interesting shopping area. You will find cool stuff here. Cost wise things are not too different to here, food and drink are slightly cheaper and better in the main part.

I will recommend some good places that I ate in if you want but I think there is a lot to be said for doing your own thing and not just sticking to the books or other peoples advice! Its a huge place, city of over 3million people, so you will find lots of places of your own!

    Enjoy, whatever you decide...

Is the east more modern than the west?

Wow, where did you eat? Germany has the lowest food prices in all of Western Europe - and Berlin has the lowest food prices in all of Germany. It is simply the cheapest place for food anyone could imagine. Pasta, pizza and a drink at a good trattoria will cost you about €10. A kebab is €2. Asian dishes come in around the €5 mark. A sushi dinner with drink is about €15. To me, that is massively cheaper than Ireland...

We like to explore cities and this one has so much to do in it! Is there anything you would recommend highly that we should do?
Regarding places to eat, I think we'll just find our bits, that shopping area you suggested seems interesting! I might have to go there, what kind of stuff would you pick up there?

Check out the Adina Hotel . For me, it's the best hotel in Berlin. It's located up the road from Checkpoint Charlie in Mitte and 4 minutes walk from 2 U Bahn stations. 3 stops (6 minutes) from Alexanderplatz.

The hotel & staff are excellent and the rooms are really big too. There's good bargains for it on 1800hotels but it's expensive booking elsewhere.

The east is far more interesting and quirky. Much of the west is simply a modern metropolis like you would find in many other places. The east is a mixture of soviet-era gray high-rises, modern glass and concrete, beautifully restored pre-war buildings and run-down buildings. Along with that mix of architecture, you get a great variety of building uses: The hippest restaurant may be located between an el cheapo kebab place and a sex shop. All the great clubs are in the east. All tram lines are in the east. Other than Ku'damm, which I am told some people like for some reason, and the Reichstag, all the interesting things are in the east.

Other way around, west is "more modern" but the east is more interesting... There are parts of the east that are very soviet/communist looking but not in a bad way!

I would recommend the Reichstag. Its the parliment home. It has a glass dome which has a free walking tour with audio. You get a good 360 view of all the city, popular spot. Take the 100 and or 200 buses which cross the city in a loop, they stop and pass a lot of the main areas and points of interest.

With regards to shopping there are a lot of boutique/independent shops. A few did say to me though that they are falling in numbers. You will find cool tee shirts, hoodies, jumpers etc, everything is in the area, just wander the streets. You will find shops where everything is under 30/40 quid and others that are 300/400 quid at least. Its kind of like Soho in New York.

WOW! what a fantastic find, thank u so much! I think I'll book that! Is it worth paying the extra bit to get a 1 bed apartment compared to the studio?
And regarding location, is this is a good area?

I saw it by accident. Was dying to go to the toilet after doing one of those river tours (which, by the way, is a great way of seeing Berlin and the contrasting architecture of old, very old, new and very new) so I popped into that hotel. I was trying to do the normal, I'm staying there, I have every right to be here look when......wtf?? Theres a 5 story aquarium in the lobby!! I'm so going to get thrown out of this posh hotel in a minute!

It's worth having a look at alright :)

That hotel is located in a residential/office area just east of where the wall once stood (hence the Checkpoint Charlie reference in its name). A lot of attractions are nearby and the U-Bahn will quickly take you around Berlin anyway. Park Inn has a slightly better location - it is bang on in the middle of Alexanderplatz. But if you prefer this hotel, you should not worry too much about its location - it is still very central.

I dunno which hotel to book now, so many options lol help! ha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,048 ✭✭✭dolliemix

OP just looked at the location of the Adina link and it is also very central so even though I'd highly recommend the Park Hotel cos I stayed there myself, go for the one you think will be more comfortable for you and your gf.

Berlin is made up of different areas so there are loads of centers so to speak. Public transport is amazing so once you're near a U-Bahn/ S-Bahn you can get anywhere easily.

The Adina is as good as Alexander Platz location wise.

To be honest there's so much to do in Berlin it's the kind of place you shouldn't be spending too much time in your hotel!! :D
