I haven't had a proper look around yet, but I can't say I noticed any mess when I was there. That said, I'm used to Dunnes...so anything is an improvement.

I got a nice photo frame as a Christmas present for someone in there...I'd been looking around elsewhere and thought it was pretty decent value compared to the rest. Didn't look at clothes though so can't comment on them.

That is the essence of TK Maxx
last seasons designer jumble sale, in a nut shell
the mess is the same in the uk stores, (much much worse actually)
i was surprised when i moved here that Penneys was so tidy, in the uk
its disgusting (shoe department the worst)
basically theres not so many staff employed to tidy up throughout the day
which is why they offer bargain prices (personally i dont think theres many bargains but thats me)

Have ya never been in T.K Max before? It's our nearest thing to Filene's Basement in Boston! As somebody else said this is what T.K Max is all about. Looking for that golden gem!!! I've been shopping in it for 10 years and would recommend popping in to T.k Max in a relaxed frame of mind with nothing particularly on your shopping list :D

By the way where in Galway is it? Must pop in next time I'm down West.

I did hear from someone who works there that no extra staff were hired for the Christmas season. So they had the same amount of people dealing with the extra customers. Stands to reason that the place would end up in a mess. Even places like Dunnes can end up looking like a bomb hit it at busy times.

I've heard maaaaany a bad tale about the place since it's opened so your not the only one.
Having said that there are a few bargains to be had if you find the odd gem, but you have to work hard to find them!

Any big clothes shop tends to be a mess. Not so much because of management or staff but because customers here are ignorant pigs :D...seriously...look at any clothes shop. People don't leave things back where they find them. Look at a hat rack or glove stand or something next time your in a clothes shop...people just throw them on ground!

Three weeks ago I bought a brilliant pair of Salomon Snow Boots. €149 online & €69 in TK. Two fellas in the store joked that no one in Ireland would need to buy them. Who's laughing now ?. Warm feet - heaven !.

dear god i agree with you there. i was in penneys yesterday getting cloths for my boys and a long came this twat pulling things to see the sizes on the hangers and them going flying on to the floor, the staff member had only put things back in order cos i saw her do it. i went of to other bits .went back to where twat was cloths on floor so i picked them up and twat saw me do it . why do they do that?

People are nobs the way they just fire things around, once it begins and isn't dealt with quickly other nobs see this as permission to follow suit.

There are definitely bargins to be had in TK Maxx, went in with a vague idea of a coat for my bro. Saw about 5 possibilities and picked a really good one for about 60. Saw pretty much the same one in River Deep for over 200.

Didn't see anything nice in there to be honest. All odd sizes of stuff that seemed a bit 'naff' in my opinion.
Grand for jeans but they're not exactly cheap either.

I tend to pick things up if I see them out of place and will go to the effort of putting stuff back if I'm not buying them..but more because I was on the other end once upon a time.

Number 2 on the map on this page.

I got a pair of winter boots for E25. Not especially warm, but boots nevertheless. Would have paid at least 2-3 times that for similar elsewhere. So I'm happy.

If you want pretty stores, attentive staff and this year's stuff, pay the price and shop elsewhere. In the meantime, 'tis just what the recession-doctor ordered IMHO.

TK Maxx is the Great Old One of European retail, I instantly hated the place when I first went in there. Ended up practially camping out in the footwear department trying to find a pair of Ecco shoes in my size (they had them at something like E29.99 down from E129.99 and get in new stock most days). No luck in the end though and I still think it's the physical manifestation in our dimension of some unknowable soul-devouring Cosmic Horror...

That said, I got two gift cards for there for Christmas :D

Alot of people I know hate the place but can't tell me why...they shop at the likes of Dunnes and Pennys..I like Pennys too but their clothes don't wear well after 2 or 3 washes...would think for 10 euro more ya get something of better quality in TK Maxx...I know like the post above I've had problems finding stuff in my size but I guess by its nature it's an outlet type store so it's a case they take what they can get...I think it's a pretty cool shop...always changing

I think its rubbish, it is supposed to be Irelands flag ship store but their clothes collection is not a patch on many of the other shops around the country and I have been in a few. It is supposed to be hit and miss but is mostly miss with Galway's store.

You went at the busiest time of the year, Personally I love it, they have a great selection. But its the kind of store that people either love or hate.

TK Maxx, in my experience, is pretty much crap for clothes.

Great for home and kitchen wares, some nice toiletries, I've gotten really lovely high quality work out gear in there as well. But I don't even bother looking at the clothing. I suppose if you were a size 6 you could find some nice stuff, but if you're a size 6 you can go out in a bin liner looking like a million bucks so I really don't think that counts.

The key to a successful, non-frustrating shopping trip to TK Maxx is to head straight for the home section.

I got a set of specialist drill bits for €12 that retail online for €45.

Ive loved this shop since i lived in the US ..(tj max there)

i dont really find it good for clothes but only because ive no patience to root thru the rails ...my sister is the opposite and finds excellent stuff
ive got some lovely dresses for weddings there...
the kids clothes are good (timberland etc) and home wares are lovely
shoes are hit and miss ..
Best things ive bought in there is ski gear
such a big range of everything u need for skiing and prices are so good for top brand names .....

the shop is tidy compared to the limerick store .....but then again its the customers that mess ...no amount of staff can be going around picking up after everyone
