Speeding Query

I was pulled for speeding on the M8 around Cashel about 2 weeks ago, the Garda didn't give me a summons there and then but said i was getting 2 points and an 80 quid fine in the post.

I still haven't received the fine notice and it is rapidly approaching the 3 week deadline whereby the fine will increase.

My question is there anywhere that i can ring or whatever to check that my fine has been processed, I have no problem paying it but I don't want it to go past the 3 weeks and have to pay more or court or whatever. Could it have been lost in the post, especially around this time of year??

How can i check this?? Or should i just let it be??

    thanks

Contact your local Garda station, and check with them. The offence should be registered on the PULSE system.

Due to Christmas post, it may be slightly delayed.

The 3 weeks deadline is from when the fine is sent out to you not from when you first get stopped for speeding.

When I got stopped for speeding I didn't get my fine in the post for 5 months

to the best of my knowledge if you get pulled, the fine is to be issued there and then.
Only speeding caught by the gatso or speed cameras will issue in the post.

I am absolutely open to correction on that but that's my understanding.

    :D

They stopped doing that years ago, a Garda does not give out fines on the spot at all anymore, they record it and it is then sent out in the post

Thanks, but how are they supposed to know that you actually receive the fine?? People moving house etc??

5 months is a very long time, I had a fine and 1 point for getting caught in a yellow box a couple of years ago (not my fault and i hate people who do it, Garda even said i was unlucky:)) but i never received the letter, I moved house about 5 months after that

Surely it can't normally take that long to issue the fine?

As draffodx said with Chrismas it would explain the backlog in the postal system, in your case was it around the same time of the year? Maybe yours was genuinely lost? If you never got the leter im guessing you never paid and never got your point?

It normally shouldn't take that long but it can, as far as I know they have a 6 month time limit to get it to you.

What date did the points take affect on your license?

After you pay the fine a further notice is sent out and i believe its 14 or 21 days from the date on that letter before the points are applied to your license.

    Hi all,

I'm pretty new to boards so please go easy on me.
A Garda from my local station called to my house last night being Saturday & advise me I was to appear in court on a date set in early mach as I did not pay a speding fine. I have to say the Garda was very nice and plesant to deal with.
I advised to him that I had not recieved any fine in the post & if I had off I would of paid it straight away. He showed me a document with a picture of my car doing 71kmin a 50km zone, I agreed the car was mine & if I was speeding that I would pay the fine, I very concerned now as I have never been to court before.

Do I need legal assistance or what way does it work out? It would be a great help if somebody can advise me on this.

    Thank you Miginty.

O/P, everything draffodx has said is correct. The fine can be issued any time within the 6 months.....once its issued with 56days left in the 6months.

Its best practice to upload the FCPNs one the last day of a tour....IE we start back on a monday and finish on a satuardy then the upload will be done on the Saturday. Some dont however......the Garda may be gone on holiday, family emergency etc.

If you change your address your obliged to change your address on your licence.
