small funny problem here, which is driving me nuts.

i upgraded my ram on my m1710 xps to 4gb, and took the 2gb which it came with and gave it to my dad.

    he has a vostro 1500 with 1gb (2x512mb)
so we decided to upgrade his laptop.

removed the cover, and only found 1 ram slot. turns out dell put the other ram slot on the other side of the motherboard in a bastard to find place.

so after a while of messing with it, we finally got it open, and put in the 2 x 1gb sticks i gave him.

turned it on, and the bios is reading 2048mb installed.

however, system information in windows only says .99gb installed.

any idea's why windows wont tell me i hve 2gb installed?

Download CPU-Z or similar and see if that picks up both sticks. It should give you info on both of them. It sounds odd alright, what OS is he running? XP? Vista?
