    Budget?
What about screen size? Is it a 17" monster you're looking for? Or something smaller?

I dont mind if its 17" or smaller. I was looking at about €1,500 maybe slightly higher but not going to €2,000.

Also just dug out an old copy of MOH Pacific Assault. Old I know but will it run on Vista in comatibilty mode ?

Do you realy want a laptop over a desktop?...laptops arent the best for gaming...and for 1500 euro you could get a superb gaming pc with a monitor?

As long as it has a dedicated graphics card, I'd say you will be fine the made. This game was made for consoles which are now a good few years old.

So your saying just having a dedicated graphics card is going to max out mw2?...and no it wasnt just made for consoles,it was also made for pc......consoles were made for gaming..most laptops are NOT made for gaming,so OP..dont listen to this guy

yea cause IW are going to go to so much effort to improve a game to sell around 100k(playing online)
when on the 360 alone the are near 7 million(friend who is **** ranking).

the ATI® Radeon™ HD 4670 or better will run it well on medium setting well, but most non integrated cards will run it on low settings.

ye your right, they did put in hardly any effort into mw2..hence why its crap on pc but it still classes as a pc game...but this isnt about if the game is good or bad,the OP wants a laptop to max the game out..and a laptop with an integrated graphics card isnt necessarily going to max it out:rolleyes:

don't see max out any where. A laptop won't get any where near playable frame rate on the best settings, medium is as good as it get with the odd improvement on some settings.

A dedicated card will at least play it somewhat to good on low, be with an integrated card you'd be better off look a a gallery of screen shot.

The card i said will get over the 30fps playable mark on medium with the default CPU. You to make sure it has 2gb ram at least, win 7 is not as much of a hog on resources as vista, but if it's a 32bit system there's a limit of 4gb that can be used even if more is in the laptop.

that card with default stuff will go for around €1000

if you look on dell outlet you can get the laptop cheaper but can't improve the specs as these will be the canceled orders and returns they have.

Op, you would be better off spending 1k on a desktop and 500 quid on a laptop. Then you get the best of both worlds. Gaming laptops are a fallacy, they don't exist.

:( That does seem to be the case atm... Noticed this on the dell site though (didn't know they'd partnered with alienware):
    http://ireland.dell.com/ie/en/home/Laptops/alienware-m15x/pd.aspx?refid=alienware-m15x&s=dhs&cs=iedhs1
And a quick search of newegg (N.B. they don't ship to Ireland) brought up:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114720
Now I'd say both of the above would run MW2 fine, but then again, there's a probably a desktop out there that could beat their performances at half the price.

    +1

you could always buy a console and get a better laptop if you need a good one anyway.

Lads there are a couple of Dell Alienware laptops that easily match the output of gaming desktops.

No they don't, they have mobile chips which output a % of the power but nowhere close. This is the same for all the parts involved, the south and northbridge, cpu and gfx chips. Just because it has the same model number as a desktop does not mean it is the same chip. There will always be a prefix which denotes the mobile element.

They will cost roughly two to three times the amount as a similarly spec'd desktop.

They can't distribute the heat well due to the compacted design and limited airflow, people who game on them usually kill the gfx card within two/three years.

The proc and other related parts suffer from the heat as well.

The hard-drives are prone to a much larger breakdown rate due to the precise mechanical parts being broken by movement and bangs.

You can't upgrade them besides the ram.(there are exceptions, but not cheap ones)

The better at gaming it is, the worse a laptop it is. The weight goes up, the battery life goes down. The size goes up, the portability goes down.

They devalue in a extremely short period of time. The reasons for this are in relation to its gaming pedigree. In three years it will then struggle to play the latest games, making it more useful as a normal laptop. But you have the issues of age, unreliability, battery life and weight which decimate the price. Expect at least 80% depreciation over three years and huge repair costs after warranty has run out making the laptop a economic write off.

If you still believe a "gaming laptop" isn't a fallacy then go ahead and buy one, but at least you were warned. They are the biggest headache you can get.
