    Hey,

Basically, I'm looking at investing some money for a good iPod dock, to get the most out of the music I have. I've been thinking about getting a Bose dock as they get great reviews, would I be best off going for a bose dock? or are there better ones available for the high end price-tag.

my price range is around the 150€-200€ price range, but if there's something for cheaper, great.

    cheers,

    Kevin.

    hi

i was going to buy the boose sound dock myself, i went into the o2 shop in grafton street and got talking to the rep, he was saying there isnt that much differnce between that and the ipig, just the price tag.

i picked that up for 60 euro and am more than happy with it, the sound is amazing, dont waste your money on the bose sound dock.

the ipig is really loud and has excellent sound quailty.

Not sure of the price, but the best available IPod dock is the Wadia 170i. It will access the digital stream of music before it goes through the IPod DAC so you get a clean signal as opposed to an already decoded signal (by an arguably lesser DAC).

The only reason I mention this one is that you are obviously looking at above run of the mill if you are looking at the Bose price range, so I merely show the above for the type of thing I would pay extra money for.

If you are not into doing that, have a look at something like the Pro-Ject audio dock f or v (with volume adjust)

Probably the best iPod dock is the B&W zeplin, but that is not in your price range.

This dock review might be relevant:

I would get the Klipsch if I was on a budget. Can be got new on eBay for €72 plus postage.

Whoops! when I read IPod dock, I thought it meant dock -> amp, not dock + speakers :o

    My bad.

Now you have really made me want the Zepplin, but it's like 400eur :(, is the Klipsch defiantly the way to go?

    cheers,

    Kevin.

The Zeplin and Klipsch both rated 5 stars, so given the price differential, I would say yes.

There is a new Mini Zeplin at £299

Both B&W and Klipsch are speaker manufacturers first and foremost, so I don't think you can go wrong.

I have 3 pairs of B&W speakers in my home and I think I would still get the Klipsch If I wanted something like that.

Okay cool, thanks for your advice :)

I'm looking for something with good bass (excuse me if I get the terminology mixed up), with feeling. does this have a good thump to it?

    cheers,

    Kevin

edit: oh and also, the Klipsch dock you linked me too isint the one with in the review, the SXT is?

mm, I was thinking, would I be better off getting a surround sound system for my price range? would the sound be better?

    cheers,

    Kevin

Yea! my post above might eventually prove useful!

Surround sound is useless for iPod audio (which is stereo), but if you wanted to kill two birds with the one stone so to speak then yeah, it is possible.

You have the potential to get something that sounds better (or at least have a bigger sound) for a small bit more money. It would also be used for other sources like TV, DVD, BR etc.

You'd be doing well to get a stereo set up for cheaper and with better sound than the Zeppelin though.

The Wadia thing you linked me too is only something for the iPod to sit into, what about a speaker?

    cheers,

    Kevin.

Yeah, that's where I mistook the meaning of your Original Post (my mistake for not clicking the link). The meaning behind an "ipod dock" to me is something purely to dock the ipod into and access the content on it, not to amplify it.

The Wadia (and pro-ject) thing(s), would fit in with the second idea you had of getting a "hifi setup" which would have the speakers.

Apologies for the confusion. IMO, the zeppelin sounds pretty good if you want good sound for less dosh. I have a feeling the wadia is about the same price as the zeppelin alone.

What is your oppinion on the Klipsch Dock?

and if I was to buy the Zeppelin, what sort of price-range would I be looking at? (min, can buy it in America)

    cheers,

    Kevin.

the best value i've seen on the zeppelin here is cloney audio at 429..
You won't save much on that buying in sterling or dollars, especially when you factor in customs (it's a big box to hide) and the hassle.

Yeah, I saw it on the cloney website last night, looks like a good deal.

A couple of years ago, I did a big house build and used alot of high-fi systems, I have kept most of them since moving out, so will try to do a swap. (imerge/some outdoor b&w speakers, 8cd player and some other bits)
