Better value on O2 to buy at €65 package?

I am going to buy a billpay iphone on O2.

I want to get the 32gb 3GS with the O2 Advance 175 plan.

Doing this the iphone is €299 and bill is €45pm.

If you sign up for O2 Advance 350 it's €65pm but the iphone only costs €99.

After 6 months you can change plans.

Therefore you save €200 on purchase price of iphone and your bill is €20 extra for 6 months (i.e. €120 total). You save €80 overall and only have an initial outlay of €99 vs. €299.

Is this all correct or am I missing something?

    Has anyone else done this?

    Cheers

    P.

I was in the O2 store on Tuesday last week asking about this.

I was told that you can only change plans if you are moving up a price, not down.

    Maybe someone can confirm?

If you read the T&Cs it says in the first 6 months you can only change plans if you are moving up or to a plan at the same price. After 6 months you can change down.
Changing Plans: Within the first six months of your contract you can migrate to an equivalent or higher O2 Advance price plan. Where you have served a minimum of six months on your contract but are still within your minimum contract term you can move to any O2 Advance price plan.

He left that bit out ;)

I think if that's the case I might actually buy the 16gb as it's free with the €65 plan and move to a lower plan after 6 months.

I went for the €65 plan because with the €200 saving on the 32gb model you don't end up spending a whole lot more over the course of the 18 months on the higher bill and get more minutes and texts.

Do you get the free extra on the €45 plan? I have the free calls to everybody in the evenings and on weekends and can't get near my 350 free minutes.

If I didn't have this add-on I'd see myself going over in a month so beware if you don't get this that you could easily end up spending more than the €45.

I see your point - I'm not sure if you lose the free extra if you change - you probably do.
I don't think I'd need the extra mins as I'd probably use the free texting / voip apps anyway.

Also, is the 1gb allowance enough? I presume it's plenty as there wouldn't be much heavy downloading or anything going on - just surfing and e-mails etc?

The 1gb is surprisingly (at least to me) entirely adequate.

I've had very little access to wifi in the last month as I've moved house. I nevertheless spend literally hours a day browsing on 3g, downloading from the app store etc and with 5 days to go on my bill I still have around 300mb left in my allowance.

You'd have to be trying to go over it I'd nearly say, unless skype uses a lot of BW - I've hardly used that.

This is what I did yesterday. I bought a 32g on the €65/month plan and will downgrade after the first 6 months to the €45 plan :D I made sure I could downgrade and the guy I was dealing with said you can change plan whenever you like after the first 6 months :)
I think I will enjoy the extra texts + minutes for 6 months along with saving €80 ;)

thoses 350 free minutes exclude international calls just incase anyone is wondering. I ring the U.K and Asia a couple times a week and this package is completely out for me otherwise I would have gone with it...If I rang the U.K even for 1 min I would be paying over 65 Euro..Pitty really.

1gig personally i find is loads, i'm flat out on the 3g surfin, twitteriffic, FB, email, few youtube clips, tomtom gps, (3 hour journey was only 50mb, mad ! ) always have loads left at the end of the month, wifi at home does spare it i guess,
i use the mybill app, keeps track of everything down to the mb but ya you'd be doing well to use it all, rumour mill has it vodafone will be offering a standard 2gig allowence when they start pumping out the iphones, i expect o2 will do something similar to keep the masses ....:pac:

I'm waiting for vodafone to release their offer before i get tied up in a contract with 02, i'll be kicking myself otherwise if i see a better deal a week after joining 02. it's probably not going to be until march though boohoo

I believe their price plans will be identical.

You dont get the free add on on the 45 euro package. Its a pity, cos the free calls in evening and weekend are brilliant. My woman and me both make all our 'chat' calls on my iphone in the evenings so she saves loads on credit.

I figured everyone would go for the free texts. 350 minutes should be enough for me.

These are out of stock today in Henry St. and Mary St. The guy in Mary St. told me there were none in town. Anyone pick one up in Dublin today? I might get it tomorrow.

Sure eirtext gives you 400 texts a month total - how many could you need!?
