    Hi Guys.

Long story short. My home made PC died about 3 weeks ago and it turned out it was the motherboard. I had a second hand mobo, so I swopped it over and took the oppertunity to put in a larger capacity hard drive, a SATA one 'cos my old mobo didn't support SATA. I've reloaded all my software, which all works fine. The flys in the ointment are the two DVD drives which refuse to play any DVDs or CDs even though thay worked perfectly before the death of the mobo. I'm using Win XP professional and according to the device manager in the control panel both devices are working ok. I've tried both drives in another PC and they appear to be working fine. The DVD drives are PATA (IDE). According to the device manager the drivers are correct. Am I missing something dead obvious 'cos I'm stumped.

Any help or advice would be very greatfully received.

    Thanks in advance.

Check the jumper settings on the drives and try changing them to something like 'cable select'. You could also try changing them to master/slave combinations.

    Thanks degsie.

The master/slave/cable select idea seems to have solved my problem.
The dvd drives are now alive and well.
