Installing RAM is easy on any Mac. You should be able to find a guide on the support section of the Apple site. It is always worth increasing the RAM.

You probably already know this, but be aware that there are no free slots in either machine, so you'll have replace the two existing chips to upgrade.

Thanks, it's not something I wasn't aware of, but thought it was a possibility on the Macbook. So the current RAM would effectively become redundant, ah well. How high can you go with a Macbook - 2GB?

A Macbook 2.16GHz C2D? Officially, yes, 2GB. But 3GB will work. So you could install 2GB+1GB or 2GB+2GB. Only 3GB would be recognised in either case, but the matched pair would have a performance benefit.

I've ordered some for both machines now so I'll see how things go. I presume it's best to back up your data before making any hardware alterations?

you'd have to do something really strange to lose data when doing a RAM upgrade!!

    lol, yeah.

Seriously though you should backup all the time. Hard drives are unreliable.
