Just a quick question, I currently have the BT Voyager 2110 modem / router and I want to add a gigabit switch to the mix.

Am i correct in thinking that if I connect the switch to the router, that the router will handle DHCP etc, but the switch will do the "heavy lifting" and I will get gigabit speeds between all the machines and not the 10/100 speed supported by the router?

What im basically trying to ask is, will the switch handle local communications at gigabit speed or will it be bottlenecked by the slower router.. Thanks!

Yes, the switch should handle all internal traffic at gigabit speeds - assuming that the existing NICs and cables are rated for it.
