    have a dell laptop with a broken serial port (9 pin) can i get an addaptor that will accept serial plug to usb,can i change a com pot to usb

    Yes, you can get this kind of adapter and most software packages should allow you to use the new COM port in the same way as a "normal" COM port. Have a look around online, they should be easy enough to get.
