    a condom?

    what kind of protection?

    anti-virus - NOD32 or avg free.
    spyware - lavasoft, spybot, hijack this.

    better yet...

    install a linux variant like moblin or linux mint. both run superb on a netbook and don't have to care much about anti-virus/spyware.

    -Linux -> Bazinga!!! :D

    Sorry, couldn't help myself. But seriously. Installing a linux distro like ubuntu or mint would be convenient, because you don't need a virus scanner and saves all that churning of your harddrive, slowing down your machine. Especially if your just using the netbook for music/movies/internet.

    I haven't ever come across a virus scanner that I would consider to be "lightweight", except perhaps Clamwin. Its open source and the bit I like best about it is that it will absolutely NEVER do a scan unless you specifically ask it to. Now I know that this doesn't suit every user, but it does suit me. It doesn't even have to start on start-up. You'll only need to do a scan if you suspect a virus or use windows schedular to run one once a week or month or what not.
