    Risotto.
But don't use butter and use very little cheese.
    Takes 20min.

I've read and tried loads of different theories, but the only one I found that worked and still use is porridge for breakfast. I hated the stuff as a kid. It made me gag to even think about it. But having heard lots of people rave about it I decided to give it a go. I added raisins and peel and some spices or jam to make it more palatable. I couldn't believe the energy I got from it! I wish I had used it years ago. I've since given up cycling and trying another endurance sport and I feel porridge definitely gives me the edge. Best of all it is cheap, unlike many supplements you can buy in bike shops.

Not exactly what you asked for Bob but

But I think you'll find these useful.

I eat müesli instead of porridge but I do rotate the Müeslis between, Alpen, Alpen sugar free and Flahavans hi-8, one of the better moves I've made in my life, I stopped eating breakfast a long time ago but now I won't go without, even if I just grab a nutri-grain on the way. I also eat small bits but often during the day, a slice of brown bread here, a bit of fruit cake there, a biscuit here etc......

Anything else I do should be avoided but I'm only a sportive rider. For sportives I pile up the day before, vindaloo late afternoon/ early evening being my choice (probably not actually good for you), could be why I do most sportives on my own :D During a sportive I turn pig like, cake, lots of it, anything which is terrible for you. I always carry a shot of caffeine rich muck, it's the same ingrediants as redbull, about 4 times as strong but in a thing a bit bigger than a shot glass and it tastes like muck, used it twice last year and it might have gotten me home, I find it in petrol stations.

    Carrot cake
    Chocolate cake
    Almonds cake
    Ginger cake ...?

I think it more or less makes sence what you should not eat anyway, same for everyone. If you are having chips or takeout everyday of the week, that is not going to help you in cycling ... or in general.

Remember to keep the indian for the 150km+

I am often amazed by the crap that pro riders seem to eat, anytime I have read books articles etc. While they all watch their weight, they dont really eat food that a nutritionist would describe as healthy per se.

Lots of croissants, jam, sugary confectionery.

Very little fruit/veg, salad, fish etc.

But I guess these guys burn in excess of 3500 calories a day.

what made me want to keep up cycling a few years ago ( among other things ) after I lost a bit of weight was the cake eating ... however i soon learnt that unless you cycle a tour .... you have to quit the cake.

Only take part in touring/sportifs these days.

I tend to go for pasta based dishes - and especially so the day before a big spin.

Porridge is an excellent slow release energy provider.
Eggs (preferably raw) also help me.

I don't know what all you youngsters use these day when racing but Back in the 80's when I raced we used to eat small cakes and fig rolls while racing.
