I am currently sitting at home drinking whiskey. I shall remain here for the night. I have drank, but only cans the last two nights on my own as well, as I do most nights that im not out doing something. Today I felt like drinking whiskey, so I got a half bottle from the shop and am on my second hot toddy.

The task is simple. Decide whether this makes me an alcoholic or not. The choice is in your hands

I've never understood the appeal of drinking alone.
    Can someone explain it?

    Today I felt like drinking

when you do this every night you are an alcoholic. nothing wrong with one or two, but if you intend to get drunk on your own you have a problem.

    Tis the saeson sure!

That and it kills the pain.

Nah i dunno. Its habit more than anything else. No one in the house, want to drink, is that so wrong? The fact that it happens every night unless I actively decide not to drink is the worrying thing, but sure...

If you have reached the point where you're asking yourself 'Am I an alco?' then I think you already know the answer.

I like the taste of beer. Whether it is consumed alone or in the company of others is relatively irrelevant for me. A Guinnes in the pub while reading the paper is a very enjoyable way to spend some spend in my opinion.

Getting drunk alone - that i don't understand.

I often sit down with a beer and play Xbox or with a glass of wine and watch TV, I don't see the issue?

However, I wouldn't drink to excess on my own, I don't see the point in that....

There is a saying that was once said to me which I though was striking:
"you take a drink - the drink takes a drink - and then the drink takes you..."
If you can't see HONESTLY (with yourself) which stage your at, you at the very least need to check upon your ongoing habits.

Makes it easier to lie to myself that everything is ok.

Makes crap films bearable (wait no that's pot).

Well on the basis of tonight its the drink taking a drink stage that im at id say heh. I probably wont finish the whiskey, though it is only 7 o clock. I never normally get drunk on my own, maybe very slightly tipsy after 3 beers or something but thats it.

To whoever told me to smoke weed instead, its the exact same thing really. Difference between drinking a can and lots of whiskey is a spliff of hash - a blunt of weed. If you would smoke a blunt on your own as ive done a long time ago, then that probably does make you addicted, which I spose isnt the best sign in the world

Are you physically addicted to Alcohol? If so then you are an alcoholic. If you are not addicted to it, then you are not an Alcoholic. Alcoholism has nothing to do with how many people around you when you are drinking. It's a relatively simple concept.

Look at me everyone I'm drinking alcohol alone and posting on the internet about it asking people if they think I'm an alcoholic. This makes me cool. Give me attention everyone.

Generally a good rule of thumb is "Is my drinking causing problems?"

It could be that you're knocking your other half or kids about or anyone else for that matter...

It could be that your personality changes enough for people to comment they dont like it...

It could be that providing money for alcohol takes precedence over other areas such as utility bills etc ...

It could be that it's causing you to miss work...

It could be that you cant do certain things or face certain situations without alcohol...

As said above, it's not necessarily the volume of alcohol (that will come, believe me...), the place, or with whom it's consumed. A more accurate indicator would be is your drinking for any reason causing problems?

Only You can answer that i'm afraid...

I'd need a little bit more info on your drinking habits to make that decision.
There is no science in declaring a person an alcoholic, but if you are drinking every
other day, then it's logical to assume you may have an addiction to alcohol.

I drink coffee every day, and I have to admit, I am addicted to it. If I was drinking
alcohol every day, then logic says that I am addicted to it. It's not as easy to
admit that you are addicted to alcohol as it is to admit that you are addicted
to coffee, which is why many folks are so in denial about their drinking.

At home is the best place to get drunk on whiskey, the average joe wont appreciate it if you get drunk on it in public! (personal experience):o

If it doesn't interfer with your work or family you are not an alco, if it does you are :D

If you can never leave a can in the fridge, or a naggin unfinished, maybe you might have a problem. Just fancying a half-bottle some night doesn't make you an alco. Try giving it up for a week or two, maybe in the New Year, and see how you feel.

Half a bottle? No your not an alcoholic, half a bottle is neither here nor there, all it would do is put the lip on ya.
