Hey, just wondering how people feel about the exam for advanced information systems? It is the only one I am really worried about as I have not a clue about it and find it extremely tough to study. I thought the lecturer for the subject was awful and I could never follow what she was talking about. I only got about half the marks for the CA stuff and am looking to just pass this module. Was just looking at the sample questions on moodle that she put up so gonna try and just do all of them and hope the questions on the exam paper are similar. God dam info systems is probably the most boring topic I can think of to study! :(

Was thinking the same thing. All i've been doing is reading the articles she put up on moodle and hopefully a question will come up on them that i can write about.

we have it easy this year though. i'm repeating from last year and the format is a lot different (though the topics are still the same). i'm on intra so i'm take the class with exams only, but from what i heard the lecture IS really boring. i guess it all depends on your interests.

Hey, did you fail this module last year or something? And if so, were you allowed to go ahead and do your intra year and just re sit this exam this year? I am going in to 4th year next year and skipping intra but if I fail any subject I am assuming I have to repeat 2nd year right? Do DCU allow you to carry on a module if you fail it in to the next year? I am going to the states this summer also so really need to pass all exams at the first go.

Yeah i failed info systems and economics. i had planned to do intra from the get go and out of a class of nearly 200, i was 1 of only about 80 that got a placement. the policy for business studies is if you fail in 2nd year but are doing an intra, you can repeat the exams and do the intra at the same time, but you must pass the 2nd year and the intra to get into 4th.

If your not doing intra, then unfortunetly its like all other course, repeating the year only doing the module you failed. if your plan is to go to america, then just try your best and hope for the best.

Ok, I see, thanks. Ah I should be ok, I tend to get a bit over worried about certain exams but hopefully as the next 3 weeks go by I will be much more prepared. Am just finding it tough to concentrate on the reading material for this module as there is so much of it on moodle and it is soooo boring to me.

Don't mind studying something like stats but it can take me hours to read just one article on BIS as I find it very tough to concentrate on.
This is a bit of a dumb question but if I already have 14% and the exam is worth 70%, then what do I need to score out of 100% on the final exam to make up the minimum of 26% or 27% that I need to pass? Is 40% right (40x70/100)?

You have 14% from the CA already and you need a minimum of 26% from a possible 70%, is it? I think you'd need about 37% from the exam then.

As boring as Information Systems was, I'd be more worried about Law and all those cases. Jaysus.

Thanks, yeah I know all about studying law cases but lucky for me I got exempt from this module this year as I did it twice last year in DIT. Jesus thank god I did, I can hardly get my head around studying for the rest. Just studying around xmas makes it so hard, I wish we had them back in December. I like boozing way too much and dont have enough self control to study during holidays  Think stats and production should be fine, HRM is a load of ****e but there was 50% going for the CA so should be able to pass that fine. Lol as you can see I'm not aiming for a first!

Hey, have been looking through some of the readings today that are on moodle but there seems to be a load of content. The thing that has me in a panic is how much if this stuff do we need to know, and how well? The structure of this exam has changed this year so we can't just look over previous years exam papers to get a scope of what the paper should look like.

I am assuming that it will be pretty much the same as the sample questions the lecturer posted up but they are all pretty specific on certain articles and require a good bit of depth in the answer. With the amount of content on moodle it would be very tough to cover everything in depth so just wondering are there particular articles that we should be focusing on such as the ones examined in the sample question? I have emailed the lecturer about this but don't expect to hear anything back soon. Will let you know if I do get a reply.
