Essential mac software help

Just bought a mac mini off of adverts and as a new mac user I was wondering if i could get some suggestions on software for it ,I need a good email program for a start,what software do you use on your mac ? I was going to setup xp on a dual boot as well Thanks

For mail, I actually like and use Apple's built-in Mail client - another favorite (and cross platform) is Thunderbird:

Thanks for that I just read the sticky, wow lots of software there , i was looking for an app like winrar , something that would unrar a lot of split files at 1 go ?

Probably already in the sticky, but I would recommend The Unarchiver - it will also extract almost anything. There's the odd thing it will have trouble with but otherwise it works great.

Tbh most of what you need will already be on the Mac. For other things, go to http://osx.iusethis.com/ - do a search and order the results by uses/users. It will show you the most popular apps.

+ 1 on The Unarchiver - I mostly use that and it does almost everything. It does seem to choke on small files that get extracted into a quite large single file (e.g. mkvs over 4GB or so) and for those, I use Rar Machine (though it's not free unfortunately):

Thanks guys lots of useful information, I have downloaded The Unarchiver and have to say its very good I have also installed bootcamp and have xp running as well , all in all a pretty painless operation, got to say loveing the mac

I'm sure you'll come to love it even more in time .

I was in your shoes a few years ago: got a Mac Mini as my first Mac and never looked back. Since then, I've had another 5 Macs and counting .

Great sites love mactricksandtips had come across 2 of the programms that I have lots more to try out is it me or what but this mac is so easy to use ?
