Has your car got a turbo. This happened to me a few months back and the problem was with the turbo pipe, there was a hole in it. Noise (and black smoke) disappeared after it was replaced. I drove for about a week before I got it replaced (apologies to drivers behind when I accelerated).

If its a TDi, Id imagine its just part of the engine noise itself. Dont think its harmful or anything Its just the turbo. My car makes always makes this noise when I accelerate. I get it serviced regularly. Its still running at the moment.

I have the car a few months and never noticed it before and if started to get a bit of a smell from around exhaust sounds like the turbo tubing did you pay much for replacement

Some part of your intake system has opened up allowing the normal intake noise that is muffled by the air filter to be heard much more loudly.

Ideally get the car mechanically checked over as too much exposure to un-filtered air will abrade the turbo and wear the engine.

if it was me, I'd get it checked in the next 300 miles or so....

Is the car down on power?

Is the car smokey under accellaration?

Sorry I can't remember how much it was but the mechanic who replaced it had a hard time doing it (he told me wait around). You need very flexible hands to do it.

are you anyway mechanical at all? You could change both pipes yourself with the aid of a screw driver. There's one at the top and one at the bottom. They cost about €45 each and are held in with a large type of circlip. Its not a big job at all.

Yeah ive done some work on my previous cars all right.
Might seem like a stupid question but where are these pipes located on the car i havent had a chance to take a look yet

Do you know what the intercooler looks like?
its on the front passenger side corner of the car. Behind the bumper. If you get under the car you should be able to see it. Then you'll see the 2 pipes coming out of it. One on the bottom and one on the top. That's them. If you want to check them first and see if you see any damage. You may only need to replace one but because the parts are so cheap its recommended to do both.

Make sure you get the right ones though. I think the 130Bhp ones are heavier that the 110 or 90.

EDIT: I'm assuming we have the same model. 2001 - 2005 1.9Tdi passat

dealer or motor factor. I got mine from the local VW dealer. I'm nearly sure they were 45 each incl. the new circlips.
