Any Toyota mechanics here ? I have a question - is the gearbox from a Toyota Hilux the same as Hiace ?

Considering the Hi-Lux is 4 wheel drive, and the Hi-Ace is 2 wheel drive
    I would say no.

Would the pivot ball in the box be the same in each ?

Pivot ball? Are you getting mixed up with something else perhaps?

Only one way to find out, and that's not a smart answer.
If I needed to find out that, I'd bolt the old one off
and bolt in the replacement one.

OR get a new one from Toyota....

I know, just dont want to make the journey in the ice if I dont need to. Toyota cant get it until after 5th Jan.

Take out the old one, and go to ANY decent scrap yard with it.

Show the lads and they will root around and get you something that fits.
I saw your other thread, it should not be a biggie to get one,
once you get yourself and the broken item to a large decent scrap yard.:D

The more business-like ones will be open tomorrow.
The best thing is to land outside with the broken one and let the lads look thru the gearboxes out the back for you.

TIP: Phoning up or appearing in person gets two very different results
with Irish scrap yards. I think they get too many wasters ringing them.

As much as you are right, I cant realy do that when my gearbox is sitting on my driveway. The reason I need to ring first is so I dont make any unecessary trips in the ice in a borrowed car.
