    Make your own buzz with people in your course, that's what we do. Small group too, maybe 18 in my year. Close knit but good fun. Only solution to the buzz-drought in the place

    Maybe drop over to the SU and ask... Currently active clubs & socs are: Men and Womens Basketball - they both train weekly in rented courts off campus. Mens soccor - matches very frequently. Rugby - matches as well but not as often as soccor, extra players are need for this. Cricket - currently out of season but re-starts in February. Equestrian - Competes in competitions around the country every few weeks - extra competitiors needed although you need experience. Pool is every Monday in the SU for money - there is also a pool intervarsities taking place in Feb in Dundalk, so if you're any good at pool check it out, contact Paddy in the SU (when we send competitiors away their expenses are paid so its worth checking out). If you prefer Dance there is weekly classes in the V blocks across from photography with a professional dance teacher, if you like yoga again there is classes in the V blocks again with a professional teacher. If you like Taekwondo there is classes twice a week in the V blocks. If you are an LGBT student contact Jacquie in the SU and she will put you in contact with the soc - they meet regulary enough and go on trips together i.e just before the Xmas break they went to Dublin on Ice and a resturant together, again all paid for by SU. The G-Soc is a social society that organises events away and Mystery trips etc. The poker soc is ramping up again after disappearing last semester - the guys that ran it for the previous 4 years graduated so has been difficult keeping this one running but its starting again. They had a large enough competiton before Xmas witht the top prize being €300 I believe - so it's worth checking out. Paintball is the same as Poker - the Soc head graduated so there wasnt as much a push on trips, however we have scheduled another trip for February - they also compete in intervarsities. There is also a choir soc that meet and sing every thursday in the SU. There are a few more, however you get the picture - there is active clubs and soc. Also if you want to set up your own just come over, we'll even give you money to do it. You pay fees to come to Griffith so you're entitled to it! Use the money you paid for! With regards to ENTs the most immediate upcoming events are SHAG week in mid February after the exams and RAG week in mid March. The Class reps voted for St Vincent De Paul and Wells for Zoe as the charities as the charities that will benefit from the proceeds from RAG (Raise And Give) week.

    Hope this helps.

    SU

    Ah, i was in GCD 2 weeks ago and the place looked dead!!!!!!!!!!

    I studied Computer Science; oddballs is an understatement! It was a weird class, it got better when i studied @ night.

    It seems like the only way to have fun in college is to make your own..

    @cathal

    Ha ha So that's how can afford all those trips.

    @MIN2511

    It's unfortunate but true. Not the most social faculty. Its a good course though.

    In all honesty there isn't much SU can do, the students must make an effort.
    We are not as established as Trinity or the other Universities. GCD is one of the better private Uni's at the moment.

    Twould be nice if there were more activities.

    Actually i wonder if GCD is affiliated with any charity organisations. Might be worth looking at.

    Ah I'm not blaming the SU sure they often try doing events. I've gone to a fair few myself.

    The SU is a joke. The "president" and the person employed by the college as the SU advisor are useless... It seems that perhaps some of the SU are more worried about improving their own social life than about actually doing anything to better student life for others.
    Also, you shouldn't be allowed to be the SU president when you've failed out of 3 different courses at the college.

    As you can see from the list above, the only person doing their job is the sport officer.

    I've been here three years and the place really is where fun comes to die...nothing to do and little or no space to do anything yourself besides go on the internet if you can get a space in the computer lab or spot in the library where you can use a laptop....I blame that last bit on bloody FE1 students.
