    Yes he has retired. One of the biggest losses in Hollywood. A great actor who chose his roles so carefully.

    Hackman is Up there with the likes of Jack Lemon ,Walter Matthau and Clint Eastwood .One of the few great actors still around .

    He retired in 2004 after Welcome to Mooseport.

    Im sure he could have went out a better way but he writes novels now

    Yes I agree he is a brilliant actor but the one role he didn't choose carefully was the quick and the dead it was an absolute disaster.

    He made a bunch of clunkers in the mid/late 70s, unless someone is going to convince me that Lucky Lady, March or Die or The Domino Principle were quality. It wasn't until 1983 when he got back on track properly with two fine war themed thrillers - Under Fire and Uncommon Valor. Fine actor though, one of those who brought gravitas just by being on screen.

    always thought he would have been a great choice to play george w bush but i guess he was a little too old

    a very cool man , along with clint , one of the few real men left in hollywood
