am i bovvered Best advice I can give you is that skis are very personal and the only way to be sure is to test them. If you are looking at a piste ski you can test them in any of the snowdomes in the uk and will get a good feel for them.
Most of the all mountian stuff with a waist of 72-76 will be very responsive and carve well on piste and will probably be a better option than an out and out carver with a 69-72 waist.

If you want something stable at speed it is going to have a bit of weight in it. Bit of feedback below the Elans and the hot rod Nordicas will be a little lighter than the alternatives. But I think the first ski you have on your list is the best one.

The 24 hour is an amazing ski that I couldnt get off my dads feet at the salomon ski test he loved them as did I. Responsive not to heavy deal with all piste and light off piste well

I wouldnt go any lower than the Aero X as you may outgrow the lighter versions quickly and the aero x you will grow in to. Probably the closest thing you will get to a proper race ski on piste withough going to the race skis.

The speedwave series from Elan is really impressive and an amazing ski with few flaws. I am a big fan of these skis and even though I work for Salomon I have a pair of Elans in the quiver:eek:

I would go for the Nordica Hot Rod series before the speed machines just a better ski all round a littel wider but still carve really well on piste.

Storm are only new to the market this year. I wasnt a fan of the stuff I tested but that is just my opinion

Atomic tend to be incredibly stiff and unforgiving but again personal choice. They make some great kit though and their Nomads are really nice.

Head have a great range at the moment and the skis are quite nice to ski on. Plenty of them out there on line at the moment as well

Let me know if you need anything

    Thanks Fattes,
Thats exactly the kind of info I need, the list was starting to get out of hand

I think I will narrow down the test down to...
    equipe 24hrs
    aero x
    head peak 73
elan speedwave series (do you have a suggestion for a model) I've seen this one... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Elan-Speedwave-9-Fusion-Skis-Bindings-168-RRP-380_W0QQitemZ360220793541QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportsLeisure_Skiing_Skis_JN?hash=item53ded51ac5

One other question I'm thinking 165 in length, 72kg, 6ft is that ok ??

    Thanks again

I would start with at least the speedwave 10 any ski you buy should have a FULL WOODCORE Very important anything other than that and you are selling yourself short. Composites and foam suck for anything other than kids.

Length again is choice but 165 would be about right my Piste skis are a pair of Salomon 3V Lab skis and they are 165 and I am 5,10 and 90KG.

Plenty of stuff on line but what you are looking for is somthing with a 69-72 waist and a full woodcore.

    Happy shopping

I am an intermediate skier, have only skied on piste and am happy to keep progressing on piste.
I am 6ft 72kg 37 years old. I have a pair of atomic hawx 110 boots that I got earlier in the year.

    so far I am considering....

    *Salomon Equipe 24 Hours (2010) £405 + p/p http://www.ski-review.com/content/view/1027/30/

    *2010 Salomon AEROMAX Ti + Skis 165 w/ K711 Bindings £299 +p/phttp://www.salomon.com/uk/#/ski/skis/on-pist-performance/aeromax-ti---711

    * 2010 Salomon AEROMAX GT + Skis 165 w/ Z10 Bindings £385 +p/p http://www.salomon.com/uk/#/ski/skis/on-pist-performance/aeromax-gt---z10

    * Salomon 2010 Aero X Skis + Z12 Bindings in Black 170cm £499+p/p ?????? http://www.salomon.com/uk/#/ski/skis/on-pist-performance/aero-x---z12

    *Atomic Drive Scandium Sport SKIS 169 + XTL 9 £299 +P/P http://www.atomicsnow.com/int/en/52.htm

    *Nordica Speed Machine Mach 1 £339 +p/p http://www.nordica.com/site/ski.php?site=5&lang=4&id=14

*Storm Inferno £399 +p/p http://www.stormskis.com/inferno.html (I think weight may be an issue)

    Head Peak 73 With RF 11 Bindings £299 +p/p http://www.beansonline.co.uk/acatalog/details/HSKI09003.htm?popup

Any help is appreciated, 2 things I am thinking is not too heavy, fun but still stable at speed (probably doesn't exist !!!):)

Great out doors and Snow and rock in dundrum are doing great deals at teh moment. My girlfriend got skis, boots, bindings and a few bits n pieces and they knocked off over 140 quid. You could haggle in some places and get a great deal.Im not a big fan of online shopping after witnessing the hassle(trying to get replacement skis that were damaged while being shipped)a mate had in buying online. Turned out skis didnt arrive in time for hsi holiday so after paying a few hundred he had to rent over there.

Have a look at http://www.sport-conrad.com/index.asp?lang_id=ENG if your looking at online as their prices are very good on somethings. They are from germany and postage is only 25 quid. I've never bought off them but i know a couple of lads that have and they were very happy with them.

Sadly Great Outdoors have a tiny range this year and nothing like what am i bovvered is looking for.

Snow and Rock should have what he is looking for

Hornd Have used these guys myself and know plenty of people who have and they are great and always spot on to deal with

    Panic over :D
Buying skis is a very complicated and stressful experience !!!
Flying out tomorrow morning and having rang every shop in Oberstdorf realised that the selection over there is quite limited (even for the German brand Volkl) I went for a speculative look in Snow & Rock.
At the end of it all walked out with the 166cm Salomon X-Wing Tornado Titanium http://shop.denig.nl/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/s/a/salomon-xw-tornado.jpg
As usual its different from what I started looking forwhich was a piste carver. Ended up with a all mountain ski with a piste biased, so it looks like I will put my first little powder excursion
I think I would have bought the equipe 24 series if they had them in stock and I came so close to getting the Aero X (they only had 162cm I thought they may be a little short) & I was a little scared of the stiff tail, in the end I thought the tornado was the better ski for what I need now.
The RRP is €655 but S&R have a 20% sale on which took €131 off.
Thanks to Fattes for the help !
Just have to test it out tomorrow on the Nebelhorn! :D:D
