2010 Alternative boxing hopes.

Let's be honest most people want FMJ vs Pacman in 2010, some want to see Haye vs the Klithsco's. Paul Williams get a few big fights, see Khan exposed or at least fight someone good. Many Irish would like to see Macklin win a world title and Bernard Dunne get back on track. But me Sure i'd love to see all this but what off the rails hopes do I have for 2010, things I see as realistic if not a little loopy.

    1. Holyfield fight Haye! I know people on here don't look Evander ad the guy is ancient, but who wouldn't honsetly love to see this Rocky-esqe fight, the only worry is that Evander comes out seriously hurt.

    2. Wlad and Vitali fight each other. Who wouldn't tune into this if they went into it in the right frame of mentality, maybe Wlad could steal Vitali's wife or something!!

    3. The Unification of any of the big divisions at the moment. Possibly be someone like Jean Pascal.

    4. Wayne Mccullogh going toe to toe with Dunne. Have to admit it would tickle my fancy.

Can't think of many more at the moment. Any from you Boxing folk.

For a ridiculously far fetched fight. Calzaghe to come out of retirement to fight one of the super six (and subsequently lose) would be great.

That would indeed be class. Especially if it was Froch.

You'd never see Calzaghe sign up for a tournament like that in a million years.

Id like to see holyfield and mccullough in one more fight against someone their own age and ability and call it a day.

For Dunne to get a few fights and get stuck back at the level he belongs at.

As for division unification 140 could throw up a few fights, id like to see 160 unified if an irish guy gets a belt.

Haye to beat Ruiz in style and fight on of the klitschko brothers.

A few good cards in Ireland... consistently.

    Yuriokis Gamboa vs Jaunma Lopez.

    Steve Bunce vs Max Kellerman.

Pbf vs manny to turn out to be a good fight.

McLoskey and Macklin to build on their recent form.

And for enzo macarenelli to fight at british / european level for a few fights, i think it would serve him well.

Things i'd like to see but probably won't happen:

Eddie Chambers to train properly and have a huge cruiserweight fight with Adamek

Evander Holyfield to retire for good

Paulie Malignaggi to knock someone out cold

You're a cruel man to want to see Haye fight Holyfield.

I can't think of any right now but i was looking forward to Hopkins vs RJJ before it went tits up.

Mayweather vs pacquiao is the biggest fight out there. Macklin in a world title fight. John duddy maybe/unlikely gets a voluntary. Andy lee beats a top ten world rated boxer. Bernard dunne to fight munroe. If most them fights come off it will be a good year for boxing in my eyes.

Money wise pac v pbf is the biggest but i think sugar v money woyuld be the best fight.

Andy lee is rubbish, 1 of the most boring pro's i;ve ever seen and i was a big fan of his.

Dunne v Munroe would be great, dunne to win..

bute to run riot over super middleweight

mccloskey to be given chances to fight and beat those at the higher end.

macklin v sturm after or before beatin pavlik.

3 irish boxers in top 10 of midweight - which means no irl v irl contender for time being. would rather see ireland control a division, this is our best chance.

as was said earlier Froch to defy the odds by beating Kessler and upping the ante to lure Calzaghe out of retirement. i doubt it'll happen though. kessler looked leaden footed and limited in his last fight due to the slick skill of Ward. His right hand will have no problem finding Froch.

Id like to see Calzaghe come out and fight the winner of the Super 6's. It would certainly cement his place in history as a true champion and the best in his division.

I wouldnt mind seeing the Super 6's being rolled out in other divisions also. Would it be asking too much to get them all fighting on the one night - in a prizefighter style tournament.

Money is the only problem with that i'd say. I'd love to see that but with a huge show. Really try sell it hard. Pick the right division and it would be a huge tv event.

It may be a super six, but its not the best 6 without bute.

i still think bute would beat them all, but who knows. he wont be replacing taylor either. see http://www.fightnews.com/?p=33929# quoted here

However the Romanian-born Bute, hugely popular in his home base of Quebec, would not have accepted to be part of the Showtime tournament for two reasons: he has been signed to be part of the HBO After Dark series and, most of all, he wanted to settle scores with challenger Librado Andrade.

    and

You certainly have been following the Showtime Super Six Tournament. Aren’t you sorry not to be in the fray? Who do you think will win it?

My objective at the time was to beat Librado Andrade. It was a question of honor. Therefore I wasn’t available at the time. Also, the rematch with Andrade was on HBO After Dark, my first appearance on this major TV network. It was a great opportunity to showcase my talent. As for the second question, I pick Andre Ward to win the tournament.

David Tua to build on his win over Shane Cameron

Paul McCloskey to get a shot at world level

Margarito & Cotto to have the rematch

People to stop correcting English spellings on each others post cos we're here to talk about boxing

The funny thing is, Andy has never been down as a pro.
I do know what you mean do, he looks so uncomfortable under pressure and like he could fold anytime a decent opponent turns up the heat.

Unconventional hopes ?, Hozumi Hasagawa to come over to America and start fighting USA based fighters(the top ones). I'd love to see him at Super-Bantamweight aswell.

Jorge Arce to win his WBO title shot and get a fight with either Donaire or a rematch with Darchinyan and win. Yes I'm aware the 2nd part of this is ridiculously unlikely.

Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym and Antonio Escalante to fight.

Jason Booth/Scott Quigg getting a fight with Rendall Munroe.

    As for Irish:
Paul McCloskey to get a shot at Devon Alexander(although I'm not sure he'll get past Urango) or another name Light-Welterweight.

Martin Lindsay to finally get his shot at Cristobal Cruz should he beat Jamie Arthur.

Patrick Hyland to get a fight with Cyril Thomas.

    why Cyril thomas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,001 ✭✭✭Big Ears

    why Cyril thomas

Well recently they both fought Manuel Sequera, Patrick was meant to fight David Kiilu(who Thomas fought not long ago), and some people were talking up a fight between Pajo and Cristobal Cruz(who Thomas has also fought), all this combined had me thinking what if they met each other.

Stylistically they're not that different either, and fighting Thomas would give an excellent indication of what Hyland's talent really is(European, World etc).

Thomas can be vulnerable at times, and he's also not much of a puncher meaning even if he did a number on Pajo it wouldn't be too brutal.
I think it's a potentially winnable fight for him imo, and would get him a very high European ranking(Thomas is #2 at Featherweight currently) and probably also force him into the IBF rankings.

The Frenchman's also getting on a bit, and I fear if someone else were to beat him first he may retire and an opportunity would be lost.

It's a strange choice I suppose, but it's a fight that interests me and that's why it's an 'alternative boxing hope' of mine. As a spectacle it would be technically a fantastic fight too, both these men are well skilled and rounded fighters.
