Absolute muck avoid like the plague....

I was looking for a DVD where you could watch the journey from one end to the other in a couple of hours showing the pre match build up, the highlights of each game (maybe 30 mins a game) and then the post match interview etc.

If there was a bonus DVD showing full games then great..... As this was the official DVD I thought it would be a good present to get so I suggested it as a stocking filler.

I have to say its shockingly inept and is the laziest piece of production I have ever seen. The highlights are only the tries from around 20 different angles and nothing else! There is also a couple of random interviews thrown in. It has the full matches but unfortunately I don't have 7 hours to spare.
The IRFU and RTE should hang their heads in shame for putting their name to this

Having full matches is better than highlights.

Yeah, i agree. I thought it was going to have interviews and behind the scenes footage etc. I don't have time to watch full matches at all. I have them all recorded anyway.

The whole point of the DVD is the Grand Slam journey. That journey is the MATCHES. The pre match build up and post match interviews while nice to watch, aren't rugby. If you want to see interviews go watch a chat show my friend. I'll be watching the matches and re-living the memories of watching them back in Feb/March, and enjoying great Irish rugby at it's best!:)

I have the matches already recorded! And if I didn't I could go out and buy a couple of blank DVd's for a few € and record them and not pay €20 for the privilege.

My beef isn't that all the matches are available, its simply the way the 1st DVD i.e. the story DVD is put together. IMO it should have been the highlights of each game in total lasting approx 2 hours........so you can sit down on a rainy Saturday afternoon and enjoy the journey over a couple of hours.

We're not all students you know ;)

You know you could have just... i dunno.. looked at the box? Or look online and saw that it was just the matches? No point complaining about it if you didnt even know what was on it at the start. I think its a great dvd and im thankful that in many years to come i will be able to sit down and watch all the matches again

It says on the case exactly what it contains.
If there was a DVD showing behind-the-scenes footage, people would be complaining that they wanted the games.
If there was a DVD with highlights and behind-the-scenes, the same.
If there was a DVD with the full games and a behind-the-scenes documentary, people would have been complaining about the price.

Personally speaking, I would want the full games myself as I was working at three of them so I was happy with it. I finally got to see the France game . . . in October!

I get where you're coming from OP, I avoided this DVD precisely because, much as I would actually like to sit down and watch all the matches, I want something more than that, and interviews etc would have been nice. I would have thought they might have tried to come up with something more coming up to Xmas and not the rush job hammered out on the crest of the win, so that would be my gripe....Ironically the provincial HEC DVDs irk me precisely because they don't contain the full matches...Guess there's just no pleasing me, typical woman!

Neither am I but I can still find time to watch a match every now and then.

Personally I loved being able to watch the England game again. Was dying to watch and marvel at how amazing Drico was that evening. Was well worth it as I didn't have any way of recording it.

I also got to read some of this book http://www.irishrugby.ie/283_18266.php over the Christmas. It offers an amazing insight into how the team went from November to March. The stories in it are brilliant - there's load of cool things. eg
after being dropped for the Scotland game J Flannery was gutted and went off to Dundrum Shopping Centre with T O'Leary and bought a pair jeans that had a 34" leg. He reckoned he had no idea what he was at (in shock!)

theres interviews with Kidney (he mentions his single biggest regret as a manager
when he dropped 6 kids off the Pres squad one year - reckons he place doing so)
, Les Kiss, Gert Smal, Gary O'Driscoll, Rala, Alan Gaffney. mentions what they did the night of the homecoming. it's brilliant. I think thats what you guys need!

Yeah, it's excellent alright. Some classic lines in it. Donncha is hilarious in it. The bit about Heaslip's cardigan is funny too. The bit where Paddy Wallace talks about giving the penalty away is actually quite profound. Very good book.

    Very good book.

Has anyone seen the book anywhere since Christmas? I've been trying to get my hands on it since I got home and haven't succeeded and I'm flying back again on Friday.

Thanks T, failed to get it from a shop but I might be back again in next month so I might order from Amazon before then. It was ordered from the irish rugby site but they said they couldn't deliver at the last minute

Hope this dvd comes down in price soon, it has stuck at around e21 for the greater part of a year now. I can't justify that kind of money for a dvd.

I hope RTÉ/IRFU release their doc with this DVD as a double disk, I would pay for that.

Got the book as a present for Christmas was really a great read would highly recommend it.

Funniest line had to be DOC talking about O'Gara

"Playing with Rog is a bit like playing with your little sister, you have to mind him."

I thought RTE produced a programme similar to what the OP is talking about that is pretty much the book in TV format or so I have been told.

Ha I read that. You'd wonder how much of the Munster forward's game is impugned by having to mind O'Gara. They were certainly a lot more effective before O'Gara's defensive weaknesses started getting targetted. Food for thought really.

What year was O Gara's defensive weaknesses discovered Size? 2009? Munster have won a few matches and trophies with O Gara playing you know! So you are saying that they would have won more if he wasn't ?
Maybe someone else would have kicked the 1000 or so HCup points as well?
