posted similar on banks forum. i use 3v but it works out expensive with a 2.50 voucher purchase charge + the booking fee.

which of these is best for ryanair
    entropay
    netteller
    rubycard
    payzone
    wirecard

in order to avoid booking fee with aerlingus visa electron is needed.

entropay is the only one i know who provides this as a virtual card. im not sure if there are other options for aerlingus soplease let me know

    thanks

    Hi ,

I have been using wirecard for over a year now, i did have a little trouble with them last august, when the transaction limit was reached, but was able to open up a full account with them, not virtual. the virtual allows 2500eur max transactions.

Now i have a convenient setup, i have an international transfer setup on my bank of ireland account to the german account number, (usually takes 4 days to transfer money)
have an unlimited limit, and i have an actual card, however some places dont accept it, becasue the information is not raised, ie car hire, airport tills, but other than that i use it on a regular basis. One feature which i like is the sms notification, so when i transfer money to the account from ireland, i get a text when its credited to the account.

I was a little angry in august, because a transfer was rejected and subsequently i had to get BOI to trace it. It ended up being lost for over a month, but i cant prove if this was BOI or Wirecard. One thing is wirecard is governed and run in germany, they are efficient. And best of all you have a fully functioning mastercard without the credit bit..

    Hope this helps

    K

ps charges with wirecard are usually, 1.50 per transfer into account, so i usually transfer a couple hundred and leave it there, with the actual card you can use it in atms but i think theres a nutty fee like 3 euros or more per withdrawel, but its completely free to make online transactions and using it in shops hotels restaurants etc. Also if you get the actual card it costs 25eur per year. Thats it, no more charges, nice i think

thanks Kevin, the 25euro annual charge is steep though. thats putting me off it a bit but otherwise seems good.

are you sure its just 1.50 to transfer into account and not 1.5% of total transfer

do you know if you can avoid ryanair charges with it

    Hi ceo,

Just checked, its actually 1 euro per lodgement, no matter how much you transfer in. The 24.90 yearly charge is purely if you get the plastic mastercard sent to you. In regard to ryanair charges, the card is a mastercard so you will incur whatever charges a normal mastercard has.

    k

the 1 euro charge is good. i think payzone and entropay charge 3-4.95% to load the card and payzone charge transaction purchase fee although entropay do not.

when you said previously that you have an international transfer setup on my bank of ireland account to the german account number

do you mean that you have it set up like a standing order to pay regularly into your account or you just have the payment details set up for whenever you want to transfer money.

can you load it by laser card and if so how long does it take to reach german account

    thanks for the help

Remember that from 1st January you need a Prepaid Mastercard, not a Visa Electron if you want to avoid CC charges on Ryanair. Entropay's virtual card is no longer an option. I personally am switching to Netteller.

just to add here, as of end of december 2009, ryanair are accepting laser payments and the admin fee is €5 compared to €10 by using a credit card.

    No it's the same price as a credit card. It's charged €5 per one-way journey = €10

I have an entropay pre paid master card and a electron card. I just top them up when I need to use them. All straight forward and easy.

Neteller seems to be the cheapest solution to ryanair booking charges however they don't accept Masercard Credit Cards for transferring funds. I have a laser which supports Maestro, can anyone tell me if this works on the neteller site and if i'll be charged extra fees for using it. I know there is an option to transfer funds from a bank account but this doesn't suit me as it takes 2-3 working days to process. I need to be able to book flights at the drop of a hat.

Have just registered for wirecard, wont be able to use it for a few days obviously but has anyone actually used it yet to buy ryanair flights as I want to do this in the next week or so?

Can anyone confirm that a wirecard prepaid Mastercard allows you to avoid paying the admin fees on ryanair?

Can confirm it works!! Recently booked my Ryanair flights using my brand new wirecard no probs and no charges.

Sorry for being pedantic, but just to confirm, are you saying the virtual prepaid Wirecard works?

I know there have been problems with Ryanair accepting virtual prepaid MasterCards but accepting the plastic prepaid MasterCard chip & pin.

Yes the wirecard virtual card works on Ryanair

Yes can confirm it works no problem with ryanair, I have used it there about 5 times now, had a few quid left over after that so I have also used it on movies.ie and to pay M50 tolls online.

Been on the payzone site checking out the prepaid mastercard . There is a 2.95% transaction fee. Does this mean that if I was to book a one way flight with ryanair costing €100 it would cost me €2.95 if I used my prepaid mastercard? Not that much cheaper than ryanair cc charges

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 860 ✭✭✭undo

That is why you should use e.g. a Stephen's Green SC Gift Card. Zero transaction fees, zero Ryanair fees.

God i hate ryanair with a passion. Not only do they treat you like crap but you've also got to jump through hoops just to pay them.

trying to use entropay with aerlingus but ill be dammed if it works. just booked a flight with easyjet using the card no problem but will not work with aerlingus..

aerlingus ask for cardholders name and address.. entropay help desk advised me to use my own.. it keeps coming up aerlingus does not recognise card... help please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 860 ✭✭✭undo

It's been a while since I last used Entropay... but it used to be that you could enter anything for name and address, your own details, "Entropay User" and some fictional address or Bugs Bunny if you wish. Entropay simply do not verify these details. If the card is being refused, either you mistyped some other detail or it is on Aer Lingus' side that something is getting stuck.

thanks for help, have tried it over ten times now with no joy. has anyone used entropay with aerlingus lately ... cheers

Entropay did not work for me on Sept 2nd. Worked fine for my flight last April. However that "card" expired on 31st August and I was issued with the original 16-digit number card, but with a new CVV and a new expiry date of 31 August, 2011.

I have phoned Aer Lingus and they could not give a reason for its non-acceptance. They told me that there was no change of policy with regard to its use. Its an insufficient response, so I have written a detailed letter to Aer Lingus on 2nd September and am awaiting a reply.

Entropay have said everything is in order and that prior to me, there was another caller with the same dilemma.

rang aerlingus today and girl did not know but hinted that when she had one she selected visa card.
created a new entropay card and tried it as visa electron with aerlingus.. no joy.
when used same card details but selected visa card , sure enough it worked and i got charged the €5 booking fee of course.. thieving mothers.

    good luck with your letter..

It seems pretty clear then what happened: Their payment processor fixed a glitch in their system that accepted virtual Visa cards issued by Entropay as Visa Electron. They never were Visa Electron cards to begin with - it was just a bug in the system. This has been fixed now :(.
