...and this warrants the starting of a new thread because...

look put it simply, apple make money out of this because record company execs will say hey, we'll give you X amount of euro to put one of our artists on this "12 days of christmas" promotion. in return the record company get money from the sales of people who'll go out and buy other songs from the same artist.

there was absolutely no way they were going to let you choose. thinking otherwise is bordering on sheer lunacy.

the app description doesn't mention specifically what the free gift will be, but if i was a betting man - and i'm not - the fact that it has iTunes logos all over the app suggests it will be songs only.

Protip: Instead of itunes.ie/day1 go to itunes.ie/day2 and so on.Nothing good.

I pulled down the Day 2 track out of boredom. Someone called David Guetta, whom I've never heard of. The track is seriously bad - substandard house with a vocal killed to death by AutoTune.

What is it with Americans and AutoTune? I thought it was going to die out after T-Pain turned it in to a spectator sport, and some other people are AutoTune-ing anything they can get their hands on - sometimes quite creatively:

I'm getting different ones on my UK iphone.

Yesterday was a snow patrol track.

Today was Alan Partridge, Knowing me Knowing Yule.
    Good stuff.

they were saying that it will be free "APPS", and all i can see is music, it was wrong to expect something decent for free, but still i wasnt expecting such kick in "b*lls" from apple...

i was happy enough with the foo fighters track. the app took a few seconds download, was FREE and theres still ten more free songs/apps/other to come. Even if everything else to come is rubbish I still got one half decent song from it, for free. i dont see what the problem is

Are we talking about the same thing? I was talking about this. I have nothing to do with O2 (any more): read about it on Twitter, looked it up in the iTunes App store, installed it on my iPod Touch. The app's supplier is Apple.

Day 3 has a free app, a version of Trivial Pursuit - will try it later. You can probably find it by searching, without the "12 Days" app.

Seems you're not the only ones who found this a poor marketing excercise!

i told: if there will be atleast 1 decent app i will be surprised...

yeah lads you right, it was a great app!

i love mine iphone too much to download and trash it with usless stuff...and ofc there are people who will take even turd if its given them with label free

It was just a really FAIL thing to do...

I downloaded the songs and put them on my iPhone, free is free, so i'm a happy bunny. I only like the Foo Fighters song though.

The apps i use, the 2 games are fairly good:)

But honestly, can you not see its retarded complaining?! Like i get a simple "oh i don't like the song/app" but full on making a thread saying how shit it was? Thats just silly.

A failed attempt at selling more stuff? Ofcourse they're main aim was to get people to buy more from the artists that they got a teaser off. Have you never got thoes free drinks or food products handed to you in town? its exactly the same thing. Would you go back to complain if you didn't like the free drink?

No one forced you to buy anything, at the end of the day they gave us 12 free things. If they hadn't have put on this offer, we'd be down 12 things. Its not they're fault if you didn't like the items offered, there where obviously some people that did appreciate it.

    /palmface...

You're missing the point. Marketing a product is about getting you to buy more of that product. Giving you something for "free" is about getting you to buy more of that product. Marketing "free" stuff that is "sh1t" discourages you from buying more, as you associate the "peddler" with "sh1t".

O2 encouraged people to sign up for Christmas "treats" but instead gave them turkeys.

Therefore the people who "signed up" and got coal in their stockings instead of oranges will remember that as a bad experience.

    Hence Marketing FAIL!
