I was shocked when I found out Marty was 53. Marty looks at least 70. And Pat looks about 40.

Go easy on poor old Marty! I don't think he looks that old at all, he looks about his age. Wasn't there a big hullabaloo on Open House when he stopped dying his hair?

You'd never think Pat is as old as he though.

Is it wrong that I love Marty Whelan?

Saw him in Brown Thomas in Dublin last year; pity he was speaking to someone or else I would have gone over and spoken to him.

Sounds about right. He was in St Pauls, Raheny in the same class as Gerry Ryan, if I recall. Gerry is 53, turning 54 in 2010. Both lived very close to each other in Clontarf at the Howth Road/Killester environs.

A friend of mine has the old St Paul's school annuals (records) including one or two from Marty/Gerry's time. Gerry had the obligatory long hair and I can't recall how Marty looked. I met that guy at a school reunion 2 years ago and he told me he still has the school annuals from those years (early to mid seventies).

Marty Whelan is a great asset to RTE, he's a natural and liable to say anything which makes him good to watch. He hasn't got that free reign since he was dumped off the Afternoon Show. Little surprised to read he's only 53 now, i'd have him down as closer to Pat than that. It means he will be on TV longer than Pat, which aint no bad thing!!
