iPhone 3GS on Meteor - General musings so far ...

    Howdie folks,

I got a present yesterday of a 3GS which I jailbroke and unlocked using blackra1n and blacksn0w. Phone has been working pretty much 100% with only one or two niggles and I just want to see if any of you guys have experienced them as well.

    1. After purchasing an App directly from the phone, when the phone is reconnected to iTunes, iTunes throws up a message that the sim card isn't supported. Resolved this by swapping in the original O2 card, leaving it 'talk' to iTunes again and then swapping back in the Meteor sim and it works fine again.

If apps are bought from the iTunes store online, this problem doesn't occur ?

    2.
Have put in all the required data under 'Cellular Data Network' but find the internet very, very slow. Even though 3G is on and I have 3G signal the phone won't connect to the net without Edge turned on as well ?

Under cellular data; I'm using data.mymeteor.ie and the 'my' 'wap' username and password combo. If I change this to isp.mymeteor.ie and 'my' 'meteor' user/pw I can't connect to the net at all ?

Am I doing something wrong ? I've rang Meteor who said my data services are all turned on. Even got a message today from them advertising the highlights of the footie on 3G ?

    3.
    Tweetdeck.

It works fine under WiFi, but under mobile net, it never shows new updates from contacts but it does allow me to update my own status ?

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and help here before the plunge, it was definitely worth it !

This sounds very intresting. Thanks for telling us. Hopefully someone will have some replies soon. Planning on trying to get one tomorrow to do same.

Make sure you get a pre-week 40 model. The week is the 4th and 5th number in the serial number. If you get a post week 40 one, everytime the phone is powered down it needs to be booted with the Blackra1n application to start again as far as I understand.

Thanks for that, very useful. Can I just go in and ask for a Pre week 40 model? Surely that's a bit cheeky?! :P

Just don't do it in an O2 store, Carphone Warehouse had no problem with me but only had 32GB's left that pre week 40.

Oh cool. Thanks for that! Very helpful. That's ok 'cos want to get the 32GB model anyway.

Have had a few more small problems crop up. Phone often drops signal completely before eventually reconnecting. If edge is switched off, it won't connect to the Internet through 3G. It's nothing major but does get a little bit Irritating.

Any other Meteor iPhone users having the same issues?

But people are working on getting a fixing this on the post 40 week iphones, is that correct?

If you bought the iPhone off 02 Ireland England where ever you can unlock it officially and iTunes will recognize this everytime with the 3gs you need to go on to o2.co.uk pay 14.95 pounds they will unlock your pay as you go iPhone it will not work on contract as the iPhone can be free but 60e a month that's what I done works great!any questions just ask.so I can update to firm where 3.2 what ever as the vodafone iPhone is factory unlocked as the orange one two so iTunes knowes the phones are offically unlocked so does not matter what sim card you have in the phone hope this helps

No idea who's working on what TBH, but read somewhere that'll be extremely difficult to unlock them fully as they check for the correct sim on bootup?

Also being thinking that my iTunes is due to check for an update tomorrow; does iTunes connect to the iPhone first then check for the update? When it does this with a new app, you have to put the O2 sim back in to verify the phone before swapping back in the Meteor sim. Anyone have a work around?

go to itunes preferences you can turn off itunes looking for updates there.

afaik itunes will automatically download and install it so make sure you turn it off pronto.

Is there anything that can be done to make internet go faster?

Going to try that now, but the data.mymeteor and 'my' 'wap' user/password combo I got from Meteor over the phone ?

    Edit to Add:

Think we have a winner with data.mymeteor.ie and no user/pw !
