Old saying- If your hands are cold put on your hat.

While wind chill means we will always need gloves on bikes in winter I am always amazed at the number of bareheaded cyclists I see. Windproof skull cap for warmer hands.

From the comments in that link http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/dec/17/medicalresearch-humanbehaviour
Myth that you loose loads of heat through your head - debunked. However covered the head is still a good call :)

For me, I always keep the head, hands and toes warm. If one of those isn't properly covered to me it's hell.

Yeah I think the 30% heatloss through head was exploded a long time ago.I think its more to do with your body's priorities. If the brain chills the body will divert blood there to keep it warm-taking it from extremities.Maybe somebody who understands it better might post.
I am fairly convinced of the hat to keep your hands warm from my own experience-could be placebo I suppose.

EDIT. Its just occured to me that our helmets are usually designed to cool our heads by airflow-not good in winter. Windproof hat I say!!!:)

Currently wearing Boards cycling cap under Helmet - not much use ! I'll let you know the scientific result when I get my eagerly awaited thermal cap, on the way at the moment. I hope you're right - I always get cold fingers !
