    I was on the www.svp.ie and after clicking on "donations" and then page page 2, I saw this.

    "Your donation can mean even more to those in need - if you're a PAYE tax payer and give over €250 in one year, your €250 gift could be worth €431 if you pay the higher rate of tax or €313 if you are a standard tax payer. To help us reclaim tax on your donations, simply select one of the following"

    Im no tax expert but it looks like a good way to donate.

    Yeah that was brought in about 2000, a charity donation over €250 is eligible for tax relief, so the charity sends you a form and you put your PPS number on and sent it to the revenue. The charity get the full amount of the donation (over €250) plus relief at what every rate of tax the donater is on. Another €160+ to the charity if your on the higher rate.


    When you hear of some very rich people paying no tax what-so-ever, they can be using this and other methods to offset their tax, i.e. the rich person chooses who gets the tax they pay and the gov get feck all.
