Has anyone recieved any painkilling spinal injections for neck and back injuries? Just wondering because painkillers are taking their toll on me. I am suffering a separation caused by whiplash in my neck and wondering if anyone has experienced this and used interspinal injections to reduce pain.

    Thanks

i had a pain injection ( nerve block ) in june to treat pain but its not for back pain , chest or specifically rib area pain , that said , the injection may have been into the spine , you know the way it is with doctors , they tell you almost nothing regardless of where they are prodding you :D

ive suffered from chronic pain since october 2007 ,stemming from an accident i had , ive become less tollerant of painkillers as time went by , for the 1st six months , i was on eight per day , ive tried many different kinds but they all have various side effects , tried patches , expensive as hell but they did nothing for me , im now taking lyrica which is four euro per pill

btw , the injection made the pain worse ( can happen apparentley ) but the proceedure itself went fine , i was asleep for about 15 mins and thier was no pain afterwards as the anasthetic lasted for at least a day , pm me if you wish to know which pain specialist performed the proceedure , i had it done in beaumont

Thanks for that man, same thing car accident and neck injury. I don't think I will do it. Might just keep going the way I'm going and try acupuncture as well. Does gets intolerable at times though.

You might find this thread to be of some help to you:

I already responded over there but to summarise my experience so far: I had an epidural of steroids in October to help with nerve & muscle pain (which goes down my leg) caused by a ruptured disc along with 2 slipped discs. It was done as a day procedure with local anesthetic only and I was free to leave 1 hour after it was completed. The pain on the day was bad; I had a window of relative relief about 3 weeks after the epidural. It lasted for 2 weeks and then the pain got worse again.

I have been in contact with my consultant who says that it's a sign that the damage to my spine has degenerated further and they will repeat the procedure in the New Year. They recommend a maximum of 3 epidurals over 12 months.

I'm still undergoing treatment so I'm hoping that I will have a better outcome from the next epidural.

Best of luck with your decision.

I did try acupuncture but I only had relief for about 2 hours afterward then the pain returned.

im not trying to convinve you not to do it , i myself am going for another pain injection in a few weeks , this time under a different pain specialist , when i say the pain was worse after i had the last injection , i mean it was noticiabley worse , i dont mean it was consideraibley worse , pain injections are a little like hitting a dart board , you dont always hit the bullseye the 1st time ;)

as for the pain being intollerable , i know what you mean , i myself got around two hours sleep per night last week , im finding this cold spell and all cold spells make exaserpate the pain

i too went for acupuncture , it did nothing for me , btw , the last meeting i had with a pain specialist , i discussed having an operation which involves wiring up a gadget to your spine , its akin to someone with a heart condition having a pacemaker fitted , i may seriously consider going for it f this next pain injections doesnt work , im in pain since october 2007 now , most people cant believe its possible to be in pain for so long but the reality is that the country is full of people who suffer from chronic pain
