Shopping on St. Stephens day just seems wrong. Would not go near shops, no matter what the bargains or how badly I needed something.

Yes there is. He could build a time machine. You damn whippersnappers, no initiative.

this seems a bit over the top, no matter how badly you needed something?

eg no toilet roll, no batteries for kids toys and no spare fuse for the Telly plug, you wouldn't go near shops?

In fairness those aren't that bad. Batteries and fuses could be nicked from other things for a few days. As for the toilet roll, that's why God invented the sun "newspaper".

Oh, I don't have the sun in my place. It's a popular paper though so I imagine it's in quite a few households, I assume being used as a back up loo roll. I usually have to resort to using a j-cloth or the old shower trick. Also a small kitten or puppy will usually suffice.
