Think this is in the wrong section you might have better luck posting it in the forums for the town/area of the store..

The recession brings the worst out in everyone! I mean you'd want to be seriously mean to have a shop open christmas day.

Theres always been certain shops open on Christmas day.

"the recession" being blamed on everything got really old over a year ago. If someone owns a shop ,is willing to work and thinks theres money to be made then fair play to them if they want to open.

TBH I'm surprised there arent a few Chineses and the likes that started opening christmas day considering there are now quite a lot of people in the country that wouldnt bat an eyelid about christmas if they werent living here.

Capitalism isn't supposed to account for bringing out the best or the worst. The idea is to make money. People will buy stuff if they want it and there's a shop open - batteries, milk, bread, fags, crisps and scratch cards (my brother went to a garage and bought those last two there). The 25th of December just isn't a big day to some people and if there's double/triple time going then sure idn_smilie_8.gif

I'd say Ireland is one of the few places that isn't "open" around this time of year... in america the coffee shops, grocery stores, etc. etc. etc. are open on Christmas day (and DEFINITELY petrol stations). then big sales start the day after at like 6 am.... and no closures at all for new years....... .... and they celebrate Christmas too- its their biggest holiday, its just a different way of doing things.

I feel bad for the people that have to work, where ever they live- and don't really want to. On the holidays- because not everyone has the choice.

Well from living and working in the states for a short stint one summer your post does not surprise. Many elements of the American culture do not operate within the realms of decency or reality. I can appreciate a grocery shop opening for a few hours but even thats a stretch. You have 364 days to prepare for that one day. The country should be on shutdown, running on the bare minimum.

Totally off topic I realise, but the shops are all closed and I'm bored.
-Why should the country shut down for a day?

It's arguably their biggest holiday, but is diluted by the presence of Thanksgiving. Neither holiday really takes the All Important role that Christmas in UK/Ireland would, based on what I've seen anyway.

They're just a bunch of hard-working heathens. Isn't it a max of a couple of days at Christmas (at most), and that's it?

Is Tesco Clarehall or similar open on Christmas day ? It does say 24 hours and I just would like something in writing on a website etc to state that it is closed.

I spent the last 2 days arguing (very seriously it was hell) with my girlfriend lol. So all my x mas plans got screwed up.

I need to look for at least a place to buy wrapping paper and greeting cards if not presents themselves.

Centras or Spars are your best bet.
