thing is i have a 3 bar connection which is very poor and i was wondering if any one else had the same problem or is it a vodafone issue or maybe its just that its christmas eve and its blocked up.

3 bars is actually very good, not that signal strength is any real indication though. Line of sight is also not necessary. Congestion is paramount on a 3G network.
