Need Porcelein Veneers, Have Loads of Questions

I've had a bit of a nightmare with a chipped tooth over the last few months, and I'm desperately seeking advice.

    - Do porcelain veneers feel absolutely natural? Will I forget that this thing is stuck to my tooth?
    - Can anybody personally recommend a prosthodontist who can do the job - I don't care where this dentist is, I don't care what they charge, I need this to be perfect...
    - <snip> (Sorry, not allowed)
    - Are all "cosmetic dentists" essentially charlatans?
    - How long does the whole process take? (I'm so thoroughly sick of trying to get this thing done - as I said, the tooth chipped over 4 months ago, and it's really really really getting me down:(

Yes I have some experience of him. Do you want me to tell you about it?
better ask him for clearance first.

    1. Yes you will forget if its a good fit and shape.
    2. Where in Ireland are you,PM me and I will recommend someone.

    4. No some cosmetics dentists are good, they are general dentists with a interest in cosmetics, they are not specialists. A prosthodontist has extra qualifications in these areas and is a specialist. Be warned a single veneer is very difficult to get absolutely perfect. Dont be fooled into getting 2,4, or 6 veneers unless you really need them.
    5. About 1 months start to finish, more if you want deep bleaching. You will have a temp for most of that time.

Sorry weeping baby, I have to confess my post was a tad sarcastic :( as I had assumed your's was an advert for the clinic. Such ads often begin with an innocent query like this.

As I am a dentist myself I make it a habit not to comment on the abilities of colleagues as it would be considered unprofessional, so I have to remain neutral on the issue (publicly and privately).

In addition to fitzgeme's comments I would add that it's very possible that your chipped tooth can be fixed with a small 'white' filling. If you have been living with the chip for 4 months my guess is the chip is not very big?
Most dentists will be able to provide before and after photos of cases similar to your own that they have already treated. That should help you to judge the type of work they do. So I recommend you call a dentist of your choice and schedule a consultation (only) appointment, and whilst making this appt , ask the receptionest if it would be possible for you to see some photos when you come for that appt.
If the don't have a few pictures on file it may (though not necessarily) suggest they don't do a lot of cosmetic work.

again, please forgive my initial response to your query.
