putting subtitles on a movie

I bought a Thai DVD via a website for my g/f (she's Thai) which she could watch happily, but of course I couldn't understand the dialogue.

Since then, I've found some fan-made subs - pretty good ones as far as I can see - in .srt format. What I'm now trying to do is extract the movie, put on the fan subs and save as playable on a stand-alone DVD player.

In theory, it's not that difficult. Get an MP4 of the movie, add subs (which I can do via Submerge, which I have) and then save the .mov on Toast Titanium as a DVD.

Unfortunately, I'm stumped at the first hurdle. I have extracted vob files, plural, that together make up the movie. I need to get them into a single mpeg file. Any ideas?

    Use handbrake

    http://handbrake.fr

It will be able to rip the DVD and put it into the format that you want.

Think it should also be able to add in the subs for you as well :)
