Taking a divot

    Hi All,
Are you meant to take a divot on a 6 iron or lower? On a 7 iron or higher I normally take a divot, the size of which increases as I take higher clubs, but when I'm hitting a 6 or lower I don't seem to take divots.

    Regards,
    K.

I wouldn't normally take a divot with longer irons, more just a brush off the grass and/or small amount of dirt.

Yeah, that sounds about right.Lower irons you tend to sweep off the ground with a flatter swing, then as you get to the higher numbers you can have a slightly steeper swing, hitting down on the ball to get the spin on it and take a nice divot.
