Wintry aerial photos of Mullingar - 23 December 2009

This afternoon I flew from Weston to the Mullingar area. I planned on going up to see the snow in Leitrim etc. but got delayed so Mullingar was as far as I could get.

As I headed west I found the landscape turn more and more white, with visually no thaw all day (this was at 2pm). It was amazing to see some small lakes frozen solid, and some larger ones starting to freeze around the edges.

Below are some photos (taken from 6,500 and 3,000ft).

Love those picrtures, especially the 7th one where the shadows of the trees looks as if someone lined the fields

Beautiful, fav is the fourth. I'm fascinated with mist/fog and the way it looks, esp when you have peaks over it..

Excellent photos - how often do we see the lakes in Ireland starting to freeze over?
