    Good morning lads.

need to renew my Road Tax (last minute as usual) and logged into the motortax.ie site with my reg and password, and my insurance company (AA Ireland, listed on the disc as AIG Ireland Limited) is not on the list of insurance companies... It was there before, but seems to have gone missing... I dont want to sit in the Motor Tax office for 4 hours waiting (last time was a nightmare...) so any sugestions?

It makes no difference what you put in there, the motor tax people have no access to the insurance company records, just pick any insurance company on the list make up a policy number and expiry date and it will work, thats how people can tax their cars and drive around without insurance there was something in the papers about it a while back, its a bit of a joke really

Exactly, I never have my insurance details handy when doing this, so just pick an insurance company and make it all up. Totally pointless process!

...nothing to stop you taxing someone else's yoke completely, actually.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Never bother to put in correct details, whenever I renew just never have the cert handy - the system accepts any sequence of numbers.

Don't stress, just hope it there next time so you can fill it in 'accurately' - certainly don't go & camp in the tax office - sure the staff won't case anyhow
